I agree with you. Jack Ryan 1 was a decent series, but I've given up on #2 after 4 episodes.

We just started this last night. I fell asleep and my wife wasn’t that into it. Wondering now if we should just bail.

Season 1 was not anything special but was entertaining enough. Reminds me of a network tv type show, not that hard hitting and spells everything out.

Did you watch all the way until the end?

SPOILERS

Reyes didn’t hire the assassin. The senator did because Jack and the senator killed got too close.

Lots of violence in this season but it did seem like the run of the mill "spy" action series you see on NBC

Right, it takes the liberties of not being on network but still sort of follows that formula.

It was entertaining but it was ridiculous at times.

I wished it was more stealthy and not the over the top gun battles.

Agree with everything you said. When my wife was questioning the tactics of the black ops team, you knew it had some glaring holes.

I was almost pissed off, wtf was Uber doing in the jungle when he left the boat?! I thought he was going to flank or provide cover, but he literally ran into the woods, then turned around and ran back.

Matice was cringeworthy. “We are going back, we don’t leave a man behind.....alright we got him, I’m going solo this way to lead them away, leave me behind”

Very lazy writing.

The whole black ops storyline smelled of “we don’t have 8 episodes of content here. Let’s have this guy get lost in the jungle for a while behind enemy lines and we’ll spend a cumulative hour rescuing him over the course of the season.”

I’m just confused why a Senator was in Venezuela dictating foreign policy in the first place. Wouldn’t that come from the executive branch or am I FUBAR on that?

ETA: I’m only on episode two this season right now.

It's all bad. I made a list of people who recommended this show in that other thread and put them on my incredibly stupid posters list. Bama and Beer, Scooby,

Hey, I hadn't gotten far into season 2 when I said it was good.

I'm happy that Amazon is making a Jack Ryan series, and putting some $$ into it.

But yeah, this season went over the top.

1st off, the US would be damn-near occupying Venezuela if a US senator was killed there. And the Venezuelan El Presidente would be shitting himself bigtime and doing whatever we asked, instead of trying to bow up and close the embassy. And, that isn't just current politics- we know DJT would go nuts, but I think Obama would have too.

2nd, who in their right mind thinks any dictator gives a shite about "elections"? Like he's going to be voted out of office...

And finally, yeah, the assault on the palace was mindblowingly dumb. That's worse than anything we've ever seen in bad 80's action movies. This wasn't even Rambo or Arnold attacking a remote camp, this was 5 guys taking down a 3rd World country.

President sets foreign policy but congress and senators definitely get on committees that would entail foreign relations and travel. Our current impeachment hearings are based on one side not liking what the other side was doing with foreign policy as opposed to breaking an actual law.

Now that being said, it’s abused highly by both parties.

The Movie/TV board has some joyless, pretentious mofos on it.

Can you people seriously not suspend disbelief for 30 minutes? It’s a fictional TV show. I was entertained by it for a few hours.

Every show or movie doesn’t have to be Breakimg Bad or Citizen Kane.

It’s like y’all watch shot looking for things to be upset about.

Look, I found it pretty entertaining too.

But suspension of disbelief can only go so far...

A 3rd World dictator being the slightest bit concerned about "elections" is a joke. He wins that almost unanimously, of course. I mean, who do you think counts the votes?

A US Senator being killed in said 3rd World country would result in MASSIVE amounts of fear among that country's leaders. Wars have been started by such acts, and those leaders would know they're not on the Most Favored Nation list to begin with.
And for said country to expel the US Embassy and evict all Americans... those 2 acts together WOULD mean war. An ugly, lopsided Panama-type of affair, within a week.

And even if you somehow erase that outcome (or ignore it altogether, let's pretend those actions didn't happen in the show)...
the assault on the presidential palace would end the election. Martial law would immediately be imposed, if it wasn't already.

I mean, these are inescapable facts that even a marginally realistic show would have to address.

Season 1 was terrible, season 2 is worse. In season 1 a secret military base has worse security than McDonald's after than morning rush. The Special Forces Mercenary leader in season 2 was in charge of the security of said base...thank goodness he took a dirt nap in season 2. The worst "operator" ever. Maybe he was preoccupied with his duties as the Bud Light King and Dad from season 2 of Castle Rock.

I don’t understand why they had to kill off Suliman so quickly in season 1. That was such a great story line. Let him live longer and have it go a couple more seasons.

I just finished season 2 and kinda just let it go on I. The background most of it. I just wasn’t interested in that story at all

Jack Ryan 2

That's disappointing. I enjoyed 13 Hours and I think Steve K can assume the Jack Ryan role better than Ben A and Chris P, but they are are going to have to get back the roots, scale back some of the forced diversity and keep it real.

There are still too many of us alive who remember Jack Ryan and Jim Greer, portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and James Earl Jones. Those are some serious acting chops to follow.
