It’s worth 3.5 hours of your time to watch.
As others have said, it’s not the typical war movie. It’s got the set up but then goes….

Hands down must watch. I saw this the first time when I was 8 or 9. Back then I don't think the parents really new what I was watching in my room.
That was the early days of HBO. When you had the little blue adapter to attach to your tv with the prongs. You would get the little HBO guide book in the mail with the days and times that everything would be on that month. Miss those days.

Guess I’ll be in the minority. I hate this movie and just about everything about it. It has one decent scene in the whole movie when they take the beach. Everything else sucks.

Finished the extended cut last night. It was excellent loved every minute of it and could’ve watched another hour

One of the four or five greatest movies ever made, in my opinion. To anyone else who hasn't seen it, watch it. But don't expect a standard war movie. Expect a heavy and nuanced exploration on the theme of civilization versus savagery in the context of war.
