I completely agree. One movie was about how our military beat terrorists. The other was about how Hollywood beat terrorists. Academy voters couldn’t resist.

Also a sneaky good year for movies.

Django, Skyfall, Silver Linings Playbook.. And Argo beat them all.

Zero Dark Thirty was far superior to Argo, which I saw when it came out and have never watched again.

Zero Dark Thrirty in the movie theater was a phenomenal experience and for A brief moment there, Kathryn Bigelow was one of the best directors on the planet after Hurt Locker and Dark Thirty back to back...then she wasn't.

I thought it was a tactical, doc style thriller more than anything. It's one of the better movies of the last decade.

I'm not a big Bill Simmons fan, but I love his theory about how we need to award Oscars retroactively after 5 years, much like how there's a waiting period for sports halls of fame.

If we did that, no chance something like Crash wins, Shakespeare In Love beats out Saving Private Ryan, or Art Carney beats out Pacino for Best Actor when he was nominated for Godfather Part II.

I liked it. In fact, Mrs. Midnight who rarely digs war/military movies likes it.

You summed up Gandolfini's entire career right there.

Both had fantastic soundtracks

2012 was such a strong year in film. one of my favorite ever.

les mis
lincoln
argo
silver linings playbook
zero dark thirty
amour
skyfall
master
avengers
looper
21 jump street
dark knight rises
wreck it ralph
brave
dredd

I can't disagree with liking ZD30 over Argo... in fact Argo is probably my least favorite movie of that list, but Argo was still a really good movie.

Fantastic movie. I just need blackout curtains in my house to be able to see the raid scene on my tv.

Its one of those movies that when its on I'll stop whatever I'm doing to watch it. Unfortunately its not on all that much anymore.

It's fantastic. What is so t aout it is... this is how intelligence gathering actually works: tons of blind alleys and false starts, and then your big break is pretty much blind luck, and some minor piece of data you ignored a few years ago, but now you see it in new context.

The gradual hardening of the main character, as she loses her preconceived notions and develops a harder exterior is also fascinating. The things she is comfortable with at the end is not something she would have done in the beginning. This life DOES warp you, and it takes a toll on your own psyche.

I felt the film was far more fair and even handed in dealing with that than the partisan critics and supporters of the movie. The movie's politics are far more opaque and interesting than the screaming heads' debate.

Very good.

The raid scene was tense as shite. The score for the flight there was badass.

excellent movie but total propaganda. Not to get political but to say the we killed Bin Laden due to information gained form torture is bullshite.
