2) Movie theaters still haven’t recovered from Covid. People found other things to do when the movies weren’t available and aren’t going back in the same volume ever again IMO
Your second point is absolutely 100% untrue. Anytime an in-demand film comes out, people have been flocking to the theaters to see it. Spider-Man: No Way Home made over $800 million domestically after being released in December 2021. Top Gun: Maverick has made over $600 million domestically since releasing on Memorial Day weekend.

Theater was the most full I have been in this year outside of Maverick this past Thursday. I enjoyed the movie, it was entertaining. But I like comic books, sci fi and mythology so it was right up my alley.

It is dying in the same sense as Star Wars is dying. It still has an audience and makes money. But the amount of money is less than it was (compared to competing contemporaries or historical success).
There's also real animosity that Disney has cultivated and that's a problem. A lot of parents grew up with Disney products and loved them well into adulthood. But too many of those are now overtly against Disney being part of their children's lives. That's really bad. Indifference would be better than antipathy

My wife and I have no interest in going to see this. From the trailers, it looked like a corny snoozefest.

And they’re so full of shite when they say that families aren’t ready to go back to the theaters. No Way Home and Top Gun prove this is bullshite. Just entertain me, don’t talk down to me, and I’m in. Saw both of those movies three times in theaters.
I think they’re very much ready to go. Its a matter of whether they can afford to go at this point.
I can see families being more selective about what they see theaters.

Well Kevin Fiege has been smart enough not to directly insult the fans if they disagree with anything he does. He actually learned from the fans some of the mistakes in Phase 2 and did not repeat those mistakes again. That entire wing over at Star Wars has told us all to go to hell if we don’t love everything they do, so big difference at least so far, and Brie Larson is not a big enough factor when you have someone like Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt to balance it out.

1) Marvel fans have Disney+, and they know they can just wait 3 months and it’ll be on D+ included with their subscription
This is where my wife and I are at right now. There is no longer a reason for us to go to the theater anymore when nearly all movies go to a streamer 3 months or less after release.
We'll take the hit in screen and sound to avoid paying theater prices, the money for a sitter, and all the extra time it takes to go out and come home.

I don’t ever go see movies on opening weekend, so strong word of mouth my reviews (mostly on here from people whose opinions I’ve learned to value) is pretty much the only thing that’s going to get me to spend theater money. Otherwise I have a good enough set up at home and a good enough disconnect that I don’t mind waiting a few months.
I would guess word of mouth is why there is a big fall off for these vs Spiderman.

You’re really fricking missing out if you don’t see Top Gun in theater. Trust me it’s the most worthwhile big screen film since Dune or Blade Runner 2049.

At this point I am not on a full Disney boycott. I will go to see movies if they are likely going to be enjoyable. But I am nearly at the point where I don't think they intend to make many new entertainment products I want to see.
That's been the progression of the movies they are choosing to produce and especially the list of projects they have described.

Is the MCU dying?
Its Disney. They are the pandemic now. Making everything they touch sick. MCU, Star Wars, Pixar
Spidey did well for the MCU, but was not Disney. Minions kicked Disney Lightyears arse. Jurassic and Top Gun are toying with Disney releases. Disney has 1 movie in the Top 8 films of 2022. Sony, Universal and Paramount each have 2
Pre-pandemic, 7 of the Top 8 were Disney, and MCUs Spidey from Sony was at #7

I feel like they sort of lead people on with the premise of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Seemed like some huge build up towards the next big bad and exploring all of these other multiverses, but we just got this bullshite DS vs Wanda.
They don't seem to have a gameplan at the moment, so hopefully they'll get their shite together.

Thor 3 made $315M domestic. Thor 4 is already at $200M. This is with COViD surging in Cali and New York. China going anti-Marvel will hurt.

Are we still acting like COVID matters?

Idk how people are downvoting this, it’s true. Imo the reason it’s on the decline is because they have been putting out too much content and the movies they’ve put out are centered around characters that aren’t well known or liked. I miss the days where 1-2 movies would drop per year and they were all connected with characters we liked. F4 and x-men could be big for them and would get me engaged again

This is backlash against Disney in general. Parents simply can't trust them anymore.
Disney has to do a lot of backtracking if it expects to get back to pre-COVID MCU numbers.

They killed off, retired, or gender-swapped Cap, Stark, Thor, Hulk, Natasha, & Hawkeye. Kind of hard to root for the leftovers & newbies.
Dr Strange is powerful but still a second-tier hero/theater-seat-filler, much like Wanda, Ant-man, Falcon, Shang-Chi, War Machine, Capt Marvel etc.
Thor & Star Lord, in theory, could be the natural leaders of the next Avengers-like team-up, but they've basically been turned into jesters/butt-of-jokes in their own movies.

It's because Disney and Marvel Studios are no longer making good movies.
I have zero desire to ever watch Multiverse of Madness again. I have zero desire to ever sit through Love and Thunder again. These are completely mediocre films.
In contrast I've seen The Winter Soldier about a half dozen times, Civil War about four times, Infinity War about four times, and plenty of other phase two/three MCU movies multiple times - because they were good movies.
Disney is prioritizing quantity over quality at this point. The MCU shows on Disney+ are even worse than the films. They feel cheap and the writing and direction is bland. They're just not exciting and are nowhere near big shows on other platforms in terms of overall quality.

People have no problem spending money on movies right now. But when you're pushing messages with a movie that's garbage, you aren't getting people in the theater.
