Watching him on HBO’s “Perry Mason” right now. Guy’s in seemingly everything and always gives a good performance.

He doesn't get near enough love. Been watching him as Judge Reardon on Justified as we binge that. Funny to think he's also been Milton on Office Space and multiple voices on King of the Hill.

He is one of the most under-appreciated actors of all time. I had never thought twice about him until this post and immediately a bunch of different characters he played come to my mind.

Other roles not yet mentioned that spring to mind, O Brother, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Turn.

Looked up his filmography, I guess I shouldn't be surprised he did an episode of Stat Trek, who hasn't.

Absolutely.

I can't even consider him as a character actor at this point. Dude is legit as it comes.

Office Space to Barry and everything all of it. I'm a fan for sure.

He had a small, but memorable, role in Crocodile Dundee 2

We can all talk about Brando or DDL but the truth is the best actors alive are B or C list character actors

I generally agree. It was a revelation when IMDB came along and made it possible to go back and see who that familiar face/voice is. It's fun to figure out who "that guy" is and realize how many times you've watched him carry a scene.

Nathaniel Sackett. Brief role early on (4 episodes), but one that had the most influence on the rest of the series.

He's done some memorable characters, and turns into his them so much that you don't recognize him at first. These guys picked, and ranked his top seven roles.

Stephen Root's Funniest Characters

Stephen Root’s IMDb profile lists over 200 credits in both films and TV shows, doing both on-camera roles and voice work for animated series. That includes everything from historical dramas to children’s fare; from prestige TV to raunchy comedies. In other words, he’s the consummate character actor, willing to throw himself into the hands of whatever project tickles his peculiar fancy. With the recent premiere of his latest film role, in the Jason Schwartzman-starring 7 Chinese Brothers, we decided to offer up our picks for Root’s best comedic performances.
