Bill Conti's best work, at least in my opinion, was his score for The Right Stuff.

And the Rocky score might be one of the most used scores ever, but that and being generally good are the only plaudits it'll get from me.

Conan is definitely up there. My list for "best film score" is different than the OP where I read it was more about how it reflected the character.
TO me, The Imperial March is the film score that matches it's character/description better than anything else.
Best score ever is probably Lawrence of Arabia, then Star Wars. Conan would definitely make top 5.

Hell, the mission is better than any of those because I consider the score in the mission to be almost an actual member of the cast since it is music that is used to convert the tribes to Christianity.

Eh, many musicians are inspired by other works. Kings Row is awesome but everyone remembers Star Wars for a reason
