Old Henry is not only the best western I've watched in forever, but the best movie that I have watched in a long time. Simply fantastic!

Watched The Proposition last night because of this thread.
What a great bad guy. Gives off pure evil vibes every time.

It was amazing to me that Guy Pearce (Charlie) was the clean cut, nerdy Exley in LA Confidential.

I would have to agree with you on this. Classic old school Western plot, great acting, scenery. Although if you go back to 1992, I would say Unforgiven is a little better.
There were also 2 really good re-makes in the last 25 years:
True Grit and 3:10 To Yuma.

I believe the remake of 3:10 to Yuma is one of the extremely rare instances that the remake was better than the original. Bale and crowe were both at the top of their game but Ben foster steals the show imo.

As stated, 3:10 hits harder imo.

But I love that start of the shootout with that “you the one killed our friend?” And he he just puts one between his eyes before he can finish smirking.

I absolutely love this movie, but I’m not sure it’s really a western.
It’s a great film either way.

I feel that way about True Grit.
I think Jeff Bridges played it better than John Wayne.

3:10 to Yuma is one of my favorite westerns ever and actually one of my favorite movies. Watching Crowe and Bale together is just electric. Who is Kingston though?

How has no one mentioned He’ll or High Water in this thread yet?

Because it's a modern heist film, not a Western.

sorry Ben foster. I was thinking his name was Ben Kingston for some reason he’s the other outlaw in russel crowes gang who is obviously no slouch with a pistol himself

Costner has had great success in doing Westerns and Baseball movies.

Oh well yeah you're right, Ben Foster damn near steals the show in everything he's in and his performance is another reason I love that movie so much

If we are counting No Country for Old Men, I'd also include There Will be Blood and The Revenant.
