I think the people who have Christmas Story as a tradition/favorite are the same people who watch network TV shows

No one I know in real life is like "Oh did you see NCIS" but apparently they exist - same with the Christmas Story people.

Dumbass the movie came out in 1983. Time set was in the 50’s.

The Ref is the best Christmas movie.

I don't know if it's the worst, but it's certainly the most overrated. It's not very good at all. Outside of a couple of well-known scenes, it's pretty damn boring.

What's somewhat ironic is that it is kind of a GenX/Older Millennial hipster movie, and those same people often get upset if you point out other entries into the Christmas movie discussion (which this movie was well after its release as it was a bomb for a long time after its release).

So boomers were in their 30s when it came out, i.e., targeting boomer nostalgia.

Probably the most overrated, but far, far from the worst. At worst Top 15.

Worst? No.

Bad. Yes.

I can honestly never see that movie ever again and it would be OK. And at one point in the late 80s or 90s I liked it. They have so overplayed it and ruined it. I never wanna see it again.

I think it's a great movie it's just been overplayed. I haven't seen it in well over decade that's why I still like it.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, sure.

I, personally, never saw the appeal... but never had an issue with people who did either.

I think it strikes a chord more with people who grew up with Christmases similar to the one in the movie.

I used to think this too. But as I have gotten older, this movie has actually made it to the yearly rotation. It is much better than it got credit for.

Honestly, never been a big fan of the movie.

But, it's definitely now the worst.

Gave you a downvote.

Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever watched it from start to finish in one sitting, however, I've pieced it together probably 150 times over the years from TBS 24 hour marathon.

Double dumbass on you. It’s set in 1939 or maybe 1940 definitely before WWII it’s the silent generation not boomers

I don't know anyone who argues it is some great movie.

I will say that it does about as good a job as any Christmas movie at conveying the feeling of being a kid during the Christmas season and getting the audience to feel like that again, better than most Christmas movies. That fact alone disqualifies it as a contender for "worst christmas movie".
