At first glance most will say no and move on. But look deeper at the range that bale has played, on top of the volume of films he has produced and he has an argument in my opinion. One of the reasons DDL is as good as he is and gets the love he does is how rarely he actually takes a film. But when you look at the range bale has it is incredible, from the machinist, American psycho, 3:10 to yuma, American hustle, the fighter and of course one of the best version of any superhero we've seen on film.

he had an all-time performance as Patrick Bateman, but none of his other roles have really blown me away. he's a good actor though

I think Bale is very good, but overall, he does not morph into the character he's playing like Lewis does. He is especially good playing characters based on real people like Bill the Butcher, Abe Lincoln and The oil Baron guy in There will be Blood.

The Batman movies were good, but I don't think his portrayal was ground breaking. Member that voice.

The only truly DDL league performance was, maybe, in The Prestige. While he was perfect as Bateman (frick me - I just got that - Bateman - Batman, FFS I can be dimwitted sometime), I believe that was more of a perfect fit than Bale doing something magical.

I was underwhelmed with Bale as Batman and, more specifically, Bruce Wayne - I concede his Batman was pretty good, but I'm not the fan of these movies as others are (despite being a pretty solid fan of Nolan). The second movie was great, but it was great mainly because of Ledger. I wouldn't have thought that opinion was all that controversial but it is, at times, on the M/TV board.

Another problem is that, because I don't like him, I haven't gone back and watched American Hustle (which he does get a lot of kudos for). I haven't seen 3:10 to Yuma yet, but I will get around to it eventually.

No.

He's not even as good an actor as Edward Norton.

Comparing anyone to DDL is blasphemy around here, he is extremely overrated on the Movie/TV Board. Can you picture DDL trying to be in a comedy or really in anything remotely lighthearted?

It wasn't light-hearted but Phantom Thread was pretty much a dark comedy.

I think Bale is overrated. If you wanna compare someone to DDL, make it Joaquin Phoenix, or Tom Hardy.

One of my favorite actors, but I don’t think his best is better than DDLs best
