I compared Thanos to Vader because for the first time since Vader I felt like a villain had a strong purpose and desire to go forth to do something extreme because he thought it was the right thing to do to save the world.
I can see Thanos and Vader having a beer together

Both based on the same character.

Also, what was with the look Thanos gave Cap? It was almost like pity but then he also looked intrigued as well

Respect, I think.

Much like he said he knew Stark and hoped he'd be remembered on Earth, you could kind of see Thanos having respect for these guys valiantly fighting back...even as they had no real hope.

Thanos being a three dimensional character was one of the highlights for me in the movie.

Chris Hemsworth honestly probably displays the best combination of screen presence and comedic timing.

I once read that the best villains have about 49% relatable traits. Thanos knew the burden of overpopulation, and part of his campaign is to eliminate that on a universe-wide basis.

"Thanos Will Return" as the end text after the movie was fantastic.

And same...I thought he was exceptionally well done, both from a CGI standpoint AND an acted/written standpoint.

I really don't care if you hate Superman or Cavill or Snyder or whatever. The Superman character died a heroic death in BvS and this board's main dismissal of that moment was that Superman was obviously coming back from that death. IW is a great superhero movie, but its temporary deaths are as transparent as in any other superhero movie or comic that uses that trope.

I believe the difference is in the movies. In IW, the story really drew me in to the point I actually cared about the characters and everything that was going on. I felt the hopelessness of them as they faced Thanos. I felt somewhat of an emotional attachment. So while I was not about to cry, my heart skipped a beat when Tony was stabbed. When Peter and everyone else started disintegrating, I was stunned and somewhat saddened. I know they were coming back, but in my mind I wanted to know right then and there how they were going to come back. The ending had me excited for part 2. Once again I will be in theaters on day one for the next movie.

In BvS, it was an ok movie. But I did not have an emotional attachment to Clark or Bruce. So when Supes bit it at the end. I moreso felt like, "well that sucks, I wonder how he will be revived". But I did not have nearly the same excitement. And I believe that shows as I did not watch Justice League until it came out on Red Box.

Simply put, this was everything I wanted out of the movie. It was grand, epic and truly built on a decade's worth of mythology, and even created depth to what seemed like (and probably were) throwaway lines in previous movies. They enhanced the mythology instead of being trapped by it.

I have some minor quibbles of disappearing characters (Where's Korg?) but nothing major. They made Thanos sympathetic, which I thought was impossible.

I know some critics complained about how there are no stakes, and there is some truth to that. I don't believe for a second that the dusted people aren't coming back, but here's the thing... our heroes don't know that. Ad if you weren't moved by Peter finally getting his hug from Tony as he turned to dust, you are a fricking monster.

Oh, and Captain Marvel Time. Carol is gonna go Binary, and I'm so here for it.

I don't. At least, I don't think it's a fair criticism of a comic book movie. Or hell, any adventure movie like this.

Was Raiders any less suspenseful because Dr. Jones didn't die? Were the first 3 Star Wars movies less so because the three main heroes never died?

This is par for the course for what you get, and honestly, what people REALLY want out of movies and stories like this. You want the stakes to SEEM high, but in the end you want the hero to prevail. People around them can die and there can be loss...but you really don't want your main characters to die.

I mean, in the end...does anyone want Thanos to win and kill half the universe? We all know that he won't, and yet we can't wait to see how he will ultimately be defeated.

I have a few questions.

1. How inevitable was it that Thanos gets the time stone without Strange giving it to thanos.
If thanos doesn’t have the time stone, it’s impossible for him to get Vision’s stone.

2. It’s in character for Peter Quill to overreact when he frees Thanks. But Strange could have prevented that overreaction with the time stone.

I have no idea, but there was a reason. Strange told Tony it was the only way.

I think that Thanos could have found a sorcerer talented enough to undo Strange's spell. I'd imagine that these Wizards are common enough that you can find one willing to do the bidding for a price.

Loki, Vision, Heimdall and Gamora aren’t coming back. And you better believe the Russo’s know people think the ones turned to ash will come back. I’m sure they will counter with deaths to the originals in the next one.

I expect Cap and Tony to bite it in order to bring back Bucky and Spidey, BP and Strange. Will probably be a few more deaths to go along with that. War Machine and Banner might be goners too as well as Fury and maybe Hank Pym

Don't know what will happen, but Stark has to be the key. There was the choice of give the Time Stone and Stark lives, or don't give it and he dies. The reality where they win involves Stark having to be alive. He is the key. Will it involve giving his life later to make it happen? Who knows?

i'd rather he make half the universe unable to produce children. that would be a bit more humane.... but whatever.

People think the Spidey/Stark scene in this movie is sad. What if Stark gives his life to bring them back and Spidey comes back to see Stark taking his last breath and has to watch him die?

probably not too many FF fans here, but that suit banner was wearing during the fight reminded me of when the Thing lost his powers and had to wear a suit. there's got to be something going on with the hulk that will come out next movie.
