Season One is outstanding.

after that, stop, seriously.
Season 2 sucks, but I think 3 is better than 1.

Man, I wish I could go back and experience this new all over again. What a fantastic season of tv.

****NON SPECIFIC SPOILERS****

A little let down with the end, but eh, I'll let it slide for how great the rest of the season was. I feel like they could have gone deeper into the organization, but maybe that was too much for one season. Just felt like a cop-out for it to be that one guy.

Let's forget about season 2, though it's not all that bad if you don't consider it attached to the True Detective name. I enjoyed season 3. Not as a good as season 1, but what is?

Season 3 is very good. They struggle a bit to stick the landing, even in season 1.

If you haven’t watched it, pretend Mare of Easttown is season 2 or 4.

You have to make trolls less obvious than this.

Certainly the first half of 3 is better than any part of any season. Those are some of the greatest TV I've ever seen.

Season 1 was something special though.

Everything about the first season is perfect. Casting, acting, story, directing, photography.

Rare that all of the puzzle pieces fall into place like that.

I watched s1 and s3. I’m guessing season 4 was supposed to tie the seasons together, going deeper into the organization.

But it wasn’t just one guy. He was just the physical embodiment of their pure evil. It was a high ranking clan of political and legal prowess families, just like this state is known for.

I had only seen Season 2. Last week I finally started watching Season 1, maybe because of this thread, I can't remember. I'm on Episode 5 so I'm a little more than halfway through, and wow so far it's looking like one of the best seasons of television I've ever seen.

Doing a rewatch. I usually watch it once a year.
An absolute fricking masterclass on writing, dialogue, building tension, and acting by everyone involved.

I don’t know how else to describe it but by episode 3 it was like the feeling you get when you walk outside and you can just sense it’s tornado weather.

This. By the end of the episode with Rust's speech and Ledoux walking up out of the woods, I knew then that I was seeing greatness on my television screen. That might be my favorite scene of anything I've ever watched.

Arguably the single greatest season in TV history. Definitely near the top.
For sure. It arguably has the single greatest title credits sequence in TV history as well.

I’ll just watch that on YouTube randomly from time to time.

My favorite part was the end when Rust was finishing up his story while finishing up folding his beer can.

"It was all the same dream. A dream that you had inside a locked room. A dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams there's a monster at the end of it."

Then they cut to them creeping over the hill and seeing ol boy in his underwear and mask.

Chills. End of episode.

You guys are doin this wrong. Season 1 of fargo is how you follow up season 1 of true detective. Season 2 of fargo is also better than s2 or s3 of TD

Fyi, just skip season 2. Season 3 is worth a watch though.

If you don’t skip season 2 it will be hard to find motivation to watch season 3. I still haven’t found it.

Season 1’s acting, tension including between 2 detectives, scenes like the continuous shot take down of drug house, and even a laugh every so often just to break the tension overcame what is basically some sick crap going on and hard to watch at times. Your viewing “palate“ needs to be cleansed every now and then watching stuff like that, but season 2 just forced you swallow your own thrown up with a cherry shaped turd on top.

I agree with this. Season 2 was godawful outside of the cop beating the bully's dads are. S3 was very good but couldn't live up to S1.

S1 may have taken several years to write.

S2 may have taken several weeks to write. Utter crap. Skip it.

S3 was pretty good.

S4 will have Jodi Foster. Hope it's at least at S3 level.
