The casting is fantastic.
Missy’s one-liners are amazing.

Missy and Meemaw make the show. It's a real family show. Maybe that's the OP's problem with it. It's mostly clean and sometimes a little hokey, but it really captures the 80's in East Texas. It's pretty much small town, family life back then. I think it's cute. I also don't care what you think.

I've only watched it a few of times but Laurie Metcalf's (Jackie from Roseanne) daughter is pretty cute with that accent

BBT is a show I could never get into. Young Sheldon is a different story. It’s absolutely hilarious and the actors chosen for the roles are spot on. Recurring roles by Craig T. Nelson, Reba McEntire, Jason Alexander are added bonuses.

What’s your hang up with it?

Annie Potts is hilarious as Meemaw. The sister is great as the strait “man” to Sheldon. Georgie is the epitome of the late 80’s.

I think it’s pretty funny. Not Frasier level or anything, but I laugh plenty.

I agree with this. It's a pretty entertaining show from a different perspective than we have had for a while. It also helps that it takes me back to my years in the 80's.

They don't really reconcile it with TBBT, but I'm not bothered by that like some. I think they were going to, but determined it would hurt ratings some.

Big Bang Theory was a very bad and poorly written show, so I assume this is as well, but also people can watch whatever the frick they want with no judgement from me. If it’s entertaining to enough people, that’s all that matters.

Yeah..it was "so bad" and "so poorly written" that it only lasted for 12 seasons and was a global hit. In fact it was so bad, Jim Parsons was offered 50 million to do a 13th season but made enough bank to walk.

Very interesting dynamic today. The Euphoria thread, which I love, is filled with people who may not like the show because it's leftist or subversive to their ideals.

Then this thread, about a show that I find obnoxiously unfunny or the least bit entertaining (but I watch for a SO), but it seems to be liked by many here.

Curious how those distinctions grow. Is Sheldon so comfortable that you accept it as is? Does Euphoria touch people in the wrong place?

I'm not comparing the shows, just the way people react to them.

I'm surprised it has lasted this long.

Considering what else is on network tv right now, it's actually pretty refreshing and brings back a lot of nostalga
I have a feeling it's gonna be sad when the dad dies

I do think they will eventually have to do some things to reconcile it with TBBT. We have already seen Sheldon tour Cal Tech.

In TBBT, Sheldon talks about why he always knocks three times...he walked in on his dad with another woman. I think we may be seeing that set up with George's interactions with Brenda.

Also, in TBBT, Sheldon says his dad died when he was 14, which was also his impetus to leave Texas and go to Cal Tech. I am wondering if that is where YS is headed and will end with Sheldon moving out of state.

I've watched a few episodes and I like it, just not enough to dedicate DVR space to it.

The show is cute and each member of the cast nails their parts solidly. It's not a comedy in the sense of TBBT but more of a comedy version of Wonder Years or Doogie Howser (which ties in well with the show being set in the 80's as both of those examples were filmed in the 80's).

That's a bit ridiculous. I'm sure it sounded funnier and more clever in your head.

From the responses, it looks like I should sample Young Sheldon.

Thanks for starting the thread.

You sound like one of those comedy "fans" who believes that the only worthy comedies are those which are either avant-garde or critically acclaimed.

I've noticed this as well. And it is one of those things that make me... uncomfortable watching YS.

TBBT was an adult show about adults, and as such had a lot more adult-oriented humor. It's one thing for adult sitcom shows to use that as a throwaway line about somebody in the past, someone who was never seen on the show, someone who was long dead; someone the audience was not invested in. But it's a bit different now, having had several seasons of us seeing the dad (George Cooper) as a big, old lovable baw. The idea of him actually cheating, and Sheldon finding him like that is going to be really unnerving.

I'm hoping it's one of those situations where one's childhood memories don't tell the WHOLE story-- maybe it LOOKED to Sheldon like his dad, was "with another woman" but there was some wacky explanation as to why he really wasn't cheating.

This has also been hinted at with George's mild heart attacks and health issues. We all know this is coming, and within the next year or two, as Missy (Sheldon's twin siter and thus the same age) has just entered middle school/ Jr. High. I still wonder how Sheldon is going to be allowed to move all those miles away ALONE at 14 when his parents won't even let him go to college by himself in Texas.

As a side note, I went to school with a guy sort of like Sheldon back in the early 1980s. The guy started taking classes at Tulane when he was in Jr. High in Jefferson Parish. He then went to Grace King in 1980 as a sophomore and I was a junior (he had already skipped a few grades). Although a little goofy and naive, he wasn't overbearing or bratty like Sheldon and was an okay guy. He kept taking classes part-time @ Tulane, and by the time I graduated he had nothing else to take and wound up graduating with my class (salutatorian; gave a really good speech, too).

He went on to receive degrees at Johns Hopkins and Cambridge (England)--two PhDs and an MD -- and is currently a doctor at the Mayo Clinic, specializing in anesthesiology and bioengineering.

McDonald's is the most popular restaurant in the country, does that make it good?
