Watching it for the first time in a while. I forgot how many of the characters died and how they open with a school shooting where the teacher and some students are immediately killed. It really doesn’t pull any punches.

“600 Million screamin’ Chinamen.”

“Last I heard, there were a Billion screamin’ Chinamen.”

“There were.”

When my kids don’t finish their plate I tell them there are half a million scare crows in Denver who would eat that food.

Watched it with my 12 year old son a few weeks ago, I also forgot how dark and violent it was too

But he absolutely loved it even though I had to explain a few things around the back story.

The film that basically killed John Milius' career as a major Hollywood director.

In the exceptional 2013 doc, "Milius" he basically said he as "blacklisted" after that movie. It was a financial success, and obviously still talked about and watched 35 yrs later, but he never agina had the kind of career and backing like he did before that.

It was too openly pro-gun and anti-communist for the biased industry. From what I remember of the doc, there was a strong attempt to hurt the film by media hit pieces claiming it glorified killing and stoked "red scare" type sentiments.

That film is dark, yes, in place,s, but it is extremely tame compared to many ultraviolet films of the 80s like predator and robocop, etc.

I believe it was also the first movie to get the PG-13 rating.

Remember when they had to change the bad guys from the Chinese to the North Koreans in the 2012 version of Red Dawn because they didn't want to piss off the Chinese market?

"All that hate is gonna burn you up inside, kid."
"It keeps me warm."

What a badass exchange. C Thomas Howell's best role by leaps and bounds. And he was Ponyboy!

We do not speak of the remake.
