The scene where the boys talk to their Dad a final time always gets me.

"AVENGE ME!"

frickin' A.

That was the first rented movie we ever watched on our first VCR.

I remember seeing this in the theater first-run.

First PG-13 film released in the US.

Talk about heavy shite.

Remember that the Cold War was amped up during this period since Reagan was president and wasn't pussy-footing around with the USSR like his predecessors had done.

Man...I was ready to kill some motherfricking commies after that movie.

Robert was my favorite character in that movie.

From Red Dawn Wiki

John Milius was the director. Alexander Haig was on the board of directors at MGM at the time and helped with the screenplay.

quote:

Milius was signed to direct at a fee of $1.25 million, plus a gun of his choice

quote:

At the time it was released, Red Dawn was considered the most violent film by the Guinness Book of Records and The National Coalition on Television Violence, with a rate of 134 acts of violence per hour, or 2.23 per minute.[29] The DVD Special Edition (2007) includes an on-screen "Carnage Counter" in a nod to this.[30]

What a badass exchange. C Thomas Howell's best role by leaps and bounds. And he was Ponyboy!

At one point it had more deaths per minute of any movie ever. Not sure if it still does.

Remember when they had to change the bad guys from the Chinese to the North Koreans in the 2012 version of Red Dawn because they didn't want to piss off the Chinese market?

When I saw this thread the other day, I wondered if that one had Venezuelan bad guys. Did it?

My teenage son absolutely loves this movie. He's fairly observant in watching 80's movies on how rarely any of the kid actors are fatties.

It's one of my old man's favorite movies, and I saw it a million times growing up. It became a favorite of mine, and now my son loves it. It's a multi-generational movie.

IDK but I just googled and found "At the time it was released, Red Dawn was considered the most violent film by the Guinness Book of Records and The National Coalition on Television Violence, with a rate of 134 acts of violence per hour, or 2.23 per minute. "
