Any recommendations for something better? It's been a while since I have seen a good horror.

Hostel is really solid. It's not so much torture porn as it is the movie that sort of opened bigger doors for that kind of shite. But IMO it's actually a pretty good movie. And don't listen to these people...the second one isn't very good, and certainly isn't better than the first one.

As for more, here is my horror wall list I always post for threads like these:

I'll echo some of the ones mentioned here.

As Above, So Below was surprisingly good to me. Pretty cool concept that I feel like they pulled off really well.

Babadook wasn't too great IMO, but it was decent (I just didn't like the ending).

Cabin in the Woods was great, especially if you like meta with your horror. It's fantastic (both as satire and a legit horror movie).

The Houses October Built was decent, but the ending was sort of weird and confusing.

Agree that the first Paranormal Activity was solid. It would've been one of the best horror movies I had ever seen had the trailer not completely ruined the ending. I was super pissed about that.

I've heard good things about It Follows, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet (almost did a couple nights ago actually).

If you like weird, sort of fricked up ones, Megan is Missing is not too bad (but it's pretty twisted though). May not be straight up horror though.

I thought Black Death was pretty solid. Plus, Sean Bean is in it, and he's awesome.

Zombeavers was mentioned, and while it's obviously stupid as frick, it's a fun watch.

House of the Devil is a good, slow-burn horror/thriller, and a throwback to old school horror movies.

IMO no but I'm not really a fan of the torture porn genre.

If you want a movie with a decent story that is better than Hostel but similar theme...freaky and gore...watch May or We are what we are.

No it sucks and it's especially pointless if it's an edited version

It Follows is the best horror film I've seen in years, definitely since Cabin in the Woods (not really horror?), or House of the Devil (another great one).

The movie is great because of the atmosphere it creates, the music, and the fact that it stays with you days upon days. It doesn't have the strongest narrative but it's good enough to keep you interested. It is so well directed.......

The thing about Hostel is it makes you question whether things like this exist. People obviously enjoy killing and some even enjoy torturing their victims so Hostel kinda plays on the theme that these people can do this and get their rocks off as part of an exclusive club. I thought it was an interesting movie and would say the first Hostel was much better than the second and I enjoyed it for what it is.

SPOILER

I thought the first two were both good. The scene where Natalya is leading Paxton to his doom was pretty chilling.

"I get a lot of money for you, and that makes you MY bitch."

I would not call it torture porn. It is 2 movies really. First act is soft-core porn, second act is torture and survival.

The 2nd act premise was interesting, I still never want to visit Eastern Europe.

For some reason, it's not hard to imagine these movies as documentaries.

In the late 90s/early 2000s when my wife and I were just dating we would binge watch random horror movies on the weekends. Stuff like The Ring, The Grudge, 28 Days Later, Session 9, etc, were just fun movies. Then a little movie came out called House of 1000 Corpses. I couldn't get through the whole thing. Just some disturbing shite. Then Saw came out and I remember thinking how awesome it was so we dove back into horror movies. The remake of Hills Have Eyes came out in 2005 and I don't think I've watched a horror movie since. The scene with the family having to watch their father burn alive did me in. That was too much for me and I realized that I didn't need that type of shite in my life anymore. Everyone kept saying shite about Hostel when it came out about how it pushed the limits. No thanks.

For when it came out, the wonderment if something like this exists, traveling around in Europe, it was well done. Do not watch a SyFy TV version though as others mentioned.

Update:

I watched it, but the real uncensored version online. It wasn't great, it wasn't worthless. I agree with a few others about the point of the movie. I think it plays off the fact that this isn't unbelievable. I am willing to bet a place like this does exist with the amount of human trafficking that goes on. I will check out the second one another day. My boredom doesn't tend to last long.

Thanks for everyone's input. I got a few movies I wanna try now that y'all listed.

Watch uncensored for the hot chick's tits...not great but probably worth at least one watch.
