What is the best in your opinion? I think Insidious is pretty good.

The Hills Have Eyes Remake really scared the frick out of me in theaters.

I'm going to guess you mean 2000-2009 so I'm going with :

The Mist - great monster movie with crazy ending
The Descent - I wil never go cave exploring, ever
Final Destination - the movie that spawned many bloody sequels but none equal the bloody awesomeness of the original.

The torture was not unnecessary. It was actually important to the plot.
