I’d forgotten about daemons kids. All they do is stand and nod in the background LOL.
I think the line in GOT was that the dragons being held captive in the dragon pit stunted their growth. Danys two that she kept chained up were smaller than the one she left free.
what do the dragons at dragonstone eat? Sheep and goats?

even better question is, how does daemon know?

Yep pretty much. I'm sure they would fly off and eat something bigger here and there but mostly you read/see them eating sheep, goats, horses probably. That kind of stuff.

That's a pretty reasonable question, IMO. Unless you're a farmer tending to his fields while Arrax confetti falls from the sky (assuming it's not over water), only Aemon would know what happened, right?
As Sus said earlier, people are really overthinking this one.
First, there were several people, nobles and servants included, who saw Aemond threaten Lucerys at Storms End. That’s not a big jump to make to assume the guy that openly threatened him under a major lord’s roof killed him shortly thereafter.
We also only saw Daemon getting the info to relay to Rhaenyra. We don’t know how long that was after the fact. And we didn’t see what Aemond told the Greens after the fact either (if he told them off screen that word could easily spread too).
In the book at that point, Daemon isn’t there to physically tell her but sends a message to her so it’s widely enough known that it stretches beyond Dragonstone, Storms End, and Kings Landing.
ETA: I don’t want to bring up exchanges after the fact over what happened in case they make it to screen next season. It’s just not a big secret or anything in the books when it happens.

Vhagar's big arse would be easy to hit with one of Qyburn's giant crossbows. I'm really surprised no one invented one of those during this time period when dragons were wrecking shite. Maybe the Targs wouldn't be very happy if they found out someone had one

So what’s the plan with the riderless dragon daemon goes to meet? Wiki says that’s king jahaerys’ dragon (vermithor?). Who else can ride?
Just discovered on the HBO website they break down all the dragons, characters, and the map.
They list the dragon that Daemon goes to see as Vermithor so that's confirmed.

Vermithor, known as the Bronze Fury, is the largest and oldest living dragon, after Vhagar. He was ridden by Jaehaerys I Targaryen until the king passed. Since then, Vermithor has remained unclaimed.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know that one of those crossbows would do a whole hell of a lot against her. Maybe if it caught a wing (it appears hers are pretty battle worn).
Also, this is an illustration of Aemond killing Lucerys from The World of Ice and Fire anthology. Vhagar isn’t illustrated as big, which makes me appreciate the attention to size the show made when she’s described as almost as big as Balerion (largest dragon to live) at this point in her life.

Anybody with valyrian blood, I think.

The Dornish had them.

I cannot wait to see Jace in season 2.
Finding out about Aemond killing his little brother will be just what he needs to get to the next step. Serious motivation.
He will become stronger than Aemond because of this IMO.

So dragons are basically like fish and have indeterminate growth? That’s pretty cool. I thought I had read that their environment could effect their size also.

I like someone’s theory that maybe Daemon is just trying to get Vermithor on team Daemon, like Danny and her three dragons.
Again, it would be silly, but maybe he has been singing to it for years and he’s getting ready to have the baddest wingman of all time (pun fully intended).
Or not, but it’s possible.

It certainly appears that Daemon knows more about the dragons and their history than anyone alive. Throughout the season, he's made them more of a focus than anyone else.

Those breakdowns by Riley McAtee have been amazing all season. I really liked how he was able to provide more background on each episode without really spoiling anything from the books.

Finally caught up in the thread.
First, some of you should maybe go watch Fast & Furious or some other mindless crap because you obviously don't appreciate good shows.
Second, stop with the spoilers. A few posters are good at giving background without spoiling, the rest of you are not and just need to refrain from posting book stuff.
Finally, I thought the episode was good. Lots of complaints about the pacing. The pacing mirrored Rhaenyra's pacing. She grieved the stillborn baby. Another good scene too. Yeah, I know, we've seen enough birthing scenes, but this one was an allegory about this conflict tearing her apart and the dead baby foreshadowing death in her family. She showed restraint in starting a war by not roasting Otto on the spot. She then started game planning and finding out who was going to be loyal and on her side. Finally, upon the news of Luc's death you saw her stiffen, anger, and it was time for war. The pacing of the show literally mirrored the conflicts Rhaenyra was processing. That's good TV.
I don't know how many of you can complain about the pacing and character development coming off the heels of GoT seasons 7&8 where Dany's turn was not developed enough and she just goes off because she hears bells. We all had problems with how that was rushed yet when they actually take the time here to slow burn and develop a character you complain too. Can't win.
Looking forward to season 2.

I just don't get why people say this, she had one of her last 2 dragons killed by Grayjoy Pirate Yuron and watched her closest friend Miss Sandie get her head lopped off by the Mountain at Cersi's command. Plus, those Lannister soldiers she was looking at when the bells started ringing represented the overthrow of her house, the killing of her entire family besides her brother and was the reason she had to flee for her life as a kid. It wasn't just the bells.

The signs for Dany's turn were there but it did need to be developed more.
That was a huge complaint about the end of GoT, that it was just rushed and characters were moved and plot points hit for no reason other than to advance the story and hit that point.
Here we have a show that is actually developing characters and showing us their conflict and evolution. It suffers from the fact we all know there is going to be a fight so let's just get there, but that's a you problem not a show problem. They need to show the how and why for it to be good story telling.
