This is where I'm at right now. Don't care for Rhaenyra or Daemon though Daemon is a great character for the show. Can't stand Ser Criston, Alicent is pathetic and Otto is a snake. I thought the scenes with Aegon were very good this episode.

Anyone else 100% sure Moondancer is about to get chomped by the one-eyed guy’s huge dragon? Can’t believe they sent her to just scout King’s Landing by herself.

The “stay high and keep your distance” line felt so ominous. She’s absolutely gonna get barbecued.

I dont think so. Her dragon is very small but very fast.

Also another gripe so far is that the acting seems to be 10x worse this season

We’ve had a grand total of about 30 seconds of dragons in 2 episodes. I want more dragons.

The suspense before and after the fight was great

I’ll add, unlike the changes they made to the blood and cheese story, placing the fight in the bed chamber rather than a random place in the castle was a good move.

Added a lot to the “can’t tell them apart” angle.

I’m not totally on board with some of the things they’re adding to the Rhaenyra/Daemon dynamic, but it actually works with what happens later with Nettles. So if they’re playing the long game, it makes sense.

You're smoking crack. The acting so far this season has been absolutely phenomenal! Specifically, the actors who play Aegon and Otto really shined this episode.

The cinematography this episode was also amazing.

Yeah if I could give episode awards for best acting Aegon would get episode 1 and Otto would get 2.

So is Cole the Hand and Commander of the Kingsguard?

Also where is Westerling?? Kings guard vows are for life and he literally just disappeared. They better resolve that somehow on screen or off

Otto reminds me a lot of Tywin. The patriarch who gets his family to the top spot in the realm, all for his hard work to get undone by his retarded descendants.

I had these exact thoughts during the show. Damn, Otto actually has a brain unlike these emotional idiots who actually wear the crown. Reminds me a lot of Tywin, I especially enjoyed when Otto tells Aegon that his father was right about him (essentially that he was unfit to rule), and Aegon responds, "he made me king", Otto replies while laughing, "is that what you think?"

Exactly, it really shows how simpleton some people can be.

The big dramatic moments mean nothing without proper setup.

Tywin won the War of the Five Kings by 2 big blunders: Edmure Tully being a glory hound and Robb Stark disregarding his Frey betrothal.

Outside of those 2 things, 15 year old Robb Stark was kicking Joffrey's arse left and right.

Daemon killing the kid was a HUGE blunder and just like Tywin, Otto took advantage. Just because Tywin wasn't the best field general doesn't mean he didn't take advantage of his oppositions mistakes to win. If a CB blows a coverage, does the QB not get the stats when he sees it and throws a TD?

What?

and the showrunners clearly want to steer people to the Blacks.

I'd say they want everyone on Team Female. The've watered down the culpability of both of the main women for the escalation.

ETA: You can downvote it if you want but it's demonstrably true. Alicent just misunderstood Viserys on his death bed and Rhaenyra and Dameon are at odds over how the Blacks responded to the death of Lucerys? Look, I'm not saying the liberties they are taking are bad for the story but you can't really argue it's not the angle they've taken.

Don't care for Rhaenyra

Haven't really found a reason to dislike her yet. She's one of the few people that has a (relatively) level head. She understandably wanted Aegon's head after Luke is killed but clearly didn't want a baby beheaded. The realm would have understood revenge against Aegon, not the same for killing a baby in it's crib. I like her character.

Daemon though Daemon is a great character for the show

I agree, I'm sure most would, that Daemon is a great character and Matt Smith plays him perfectly. But I'm struggling to find a reason to like him at this point as well. I thought he was going to be a Jamie type character where he has redeeming qualities despite that bad, but there's not much redeeming about him other than being a good character, which really isn't enough.

Can't stand Ser Criston

My least favorite by far. Absolutely cannot stand this dude. Such a pussy.

quote:

Alicent is patheti

Why? I could see this argument last season especially after she attacked Rhaenyra, but she has been pretty good this season. More level headed and a good mother. There's only so much she can do as the kings mother.

quote:

Otto is a snake

I think the most underrated character on the show. They are going for a Tywin Lanister feel for his character and it's working imo. He's all about family and all his moves are just setting up his family to be in a better position. I wasn't a big fan of his in the first season but I'm really enjoying him this season.

1) Cersei showed that a dowager queen mother can have significant influence on a young king. Albeit Cersei sucked at the game.

2) She is pathetic because she is more inclined to bang Cristen Cole than to help her side win the war. She supposedly had been ruling the realm with Otto for years as Viserys was dying and all of sudden she has zero influence or interest in making moves beyond being a propaganda piece at the funeral?

This whole scene was the best of the first two episodes, imo. I was on the edge of my seat. Otto killed it.

People forget that the pacing is what made GoT seasons 1-6 so great and when things got sped up in season 7-8 the show turned to shite.

The pacing so far in HotD has been much closer to season 1-6 which is a good thing.

Yep. They don't want you to pay attention to the fact that women caused all of this. Alicent is a liar and Rhaenyra had a bunch of bastards.

I wonder if they'll stay true to the ending.
