Having just watched all (3) movies back to back to back for the first time, and having never seen Lazenby, I think he did a better job than Connery.

You Only Live Twice : Connery, best thing about it is the theme song
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service: Lazenby
Diamonds are Forever: Connery

In both of Connery’s movies it seems like he is often just standing around not doing much. He seems wooden at times compared to earlier outings.

I liked Lazenby’s film, and his performance in that one movie that he did.

Connery was mailing it in in the later Bond films. The greatest strength of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was Diana Rigg. In my opinion she was the GOAT of Bond girls, and her character was an equal to Bond in that film.

I also enjoyed it. But that ending is a downer

I have a soft spot for You Only Live Twice, but I'd never call it a better movie than On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Diamonds are Forever is garbage.

Take is correct, but not hot.

OHMSS would have been better with a prime Connery in the role. Connery had mailed it in during his last two Bond films and the writing for Diamonds Are Forever was lazy.

From Russia With Love is my favorite. Not only a great Bond film, but a great film in itself.

I think a lot of Bond fans would agree with this. OHMMS is highly regarded in the Bond canon.

There's a reason George only acted in one Bond film...

Yes. His manager convinced him to quit.

I get where you are coming from. It is a really good movie and Lazenby did fine in it. D. Rigg was also smoking hot. It is one of my favorites for sure but Connery just had charisma as Bond that was hard to match.

I agree and a strong female lead makes the movie. Same as in Casino Royale, Eva Green is a huge part of the movie working as well as it does.

Underused and underrated actress. Her final roles in Game of Thrones and Last Night in SoHo showed what we missed from her last few decades.

Lazenby was good, I agree but like others said Rigg was very good and it was a good story.

You Only Live Twice takes lots of heat but was solid.
Diamonds are Forever gave birth to the campy 70s Roger Moore era Bond.
Connery is Bond, I do wish we could have seen Brosnan with some bette stories, Golden Eye was a wonderful start.

It was later on in the Moore films but it's always annoyed the hell out of me they put lame sound effects over the very real corkscrew car jump in The Man With The Golden Gun pretty much ruining how incredible it was they were able to pull it off.

First Bond film I ever saw. My mom told me to go in and watch this movie on TV since I might like it. Ended up being a Bond fan for life, reading the all of the books throughout ms/hs. It's better cause it doesn't use the silly, campy space age/futuristic plot/narrative that started with YOLT. The film is close to the book, as is FRWL/Goldfinger/Thunderball. I've always liked Live and Let Die more than the other Roger Moore films since they tended to go in the same direction as YOLT and Diamonds. Lazenby punched a stunt actor in the face during his audition, which helped land him the role.
