You misunderstand what i want barney to be completely
apparently, but this thread is littered with posts along the lines of "Barney used to be awesome until he settled down and got into a committed relationship." That's just a juvenile view of his character by those trapped in permanent adolescence. Barney is a truly disturbing character if you take him as a "real person", so I'm glad the show turned him from a joke machine into a real human. Barney is better for it, as is the show.
You're issue seems to be twofold: you really hate Robin and you are a Barney-Nora shipper. I liked the Nora relationship as well, and would have had no problem had they ended up together. But it was also his first adult relationship, and most people's first relationship as an adult will fail. That's a sad part of life. I'm okay with their relationship ending, just as I was okay with any other path it maybe have taken.
I do think you undersell the importance of Robin in the Nora relationship. Robin is the one who gives Barney the words on how to apologize to Nora, when she is really describing her feelings towards Barney. Both Barney and Robin are severely broken people, but they work as a couple because they try and make each other whole, while also accepting each other's flaws. Sort of like Barney's wild lie this year to bring Canada to Farhampton, he admits that he is going to continue lying to Robin, but it will always be in service of his love for her. I thought that was a great way to incorporate his "former" self into the adult he's grown into.
I don't think Barney and Robin is chucking Barney's character development, it's just taking it in a different path. Nothing is pre-ordained (well, except Ted and the mother). I think the fact Barney tries to be a good person but sometimes fails makes him more human, not less so.
I think you hate Robin. that's fine, you can hate any character you want. But I don't think that's a valid objection to the show's course. I think the two have had struggles, as is required by the needs of a sitcom, but also plenty of moments that show that they work well together, and have similar values.

It may be juvenile, but the group has been pretty sub par for the last year or 2. If the show started today focusing on where they are in their lives now, it'd be cancelled. Marshall and Lily becoming worthless to the group now that Marvin has come along may be true to life, but that doesn't make it funny. Same with Barney growing up. He may have been a rapey joke machine but he was damn good at doing that one thing well
Like I said, the mother seems to have pumped new life back into the group and show proving that they can be funny and grow up, too bad business reasons forced them to stretch the storyline out so much.

I dont hate Robin at all. The only characters i hate are Ted and Lilly.
I just hate Barney and Robin together because it made all that character development of Barney they spent 2-3 seasons on, completely worthless. He couldve been with Robin the first time, he now acts that same way as he did then with her, he threw all that growing up away so he could go marry himself and never be a grownup.
I wouldve been perfectly happy with Nora or the stripper. They made sense for what the writers have made Barney to grow to be for the past few season. The Robin relationship was just forced as hell, it was like if Friends had gotten Joey and Pheobe together just because. Its terrible and i hate it, but i dont hate robin.

Other than small, one-off type characters, have we even seen Ted with 5 serious girlfriends? I haven't been an avid watcher of the show, and definitely haven't been around from the beginning, but I can think of Robin, Sarah Chalke, and Victoria. What other semi-serious gfs has he had?
Posted on 2/3/14 at 2:59 pm to WG_Dawg
1. Victoria
2. Robin
3. Stella
4. Zoey
Before the show started he was serious(in his mind at least) with Karen. That's about all I got it.

I can't remember who Zoey is, and I definitely don't remember a Karen. My mind is wanting to say that he starts going gaga for Robin in the first episode with their date and blue horn and stuff.

Zoey was the captain's wife. Ted argued with her about that shitty hotel she wanted to keep from getting torn down, then they dated a while and split up eventually. Karen really only shows up in flashbacks (she was Donna on That 70's Show). They dated off and on in college. She may have come back in real time once or twice in the show.

I hate how the tables were turned and Marshall became the bad guy.
If lily would have acted like a twat and at least discussed the plans with Marshall nothing mean would have been said.
Instead we get: we're going to Italy and nothing can change that.
