This season's storytelling has been very schitzophrenic
Its been that for quite awhile before this season
They want that "omg" moment so bad about everything that they are willing to completely renege on any and all precedents theyve set in previous seasons
The scenes where Ted finally "moves on" or "learns something" are laughable at this point

I agree with most of the sentiments here. Great episode and now I'm starting to get sad that the show is ending. The mother is a really likable character that's giving the group a much needed shot in the arm.

Damn wildtiger...You are so mad!
I get your gripes but I still like the show overall and enjoy most episodes. Last night's episode was close to perfect IMO. Would I have liked it to be 1 hour? Of course, but it's not that big of a deal.

Same for me. I don't remember if it was last season or the one before, but the one with Robin's fake kids made me visibly angry.

And they never showed Barney and Robin talking about it. The only thing theyve done to tie that up was a throwaway line this season that she just goes "i cant have kids" and he acted like he already knew. WHICH IS LAZY AND frickING bullshite. Barney has showed an interest in having kids an they just brushed over a HUGE life decision between those two because they wanted to force those two together so frickin bad.
Ugh, now im mad about Barney and Robin all over again. Worst tv couple ever.

Does anyone else's chest kinda hurt when wrapping their head around this type of thing happening IRL (I guess more so for those that aren't married)? That there could potentially be dozens of close calls with your soul mate and the one person for you yet neither of you know about it, all the times you have been in the same place at the same time and didn't have a clue, all the times your paths have almost crossed but just barely didn't, yet in time eventually the universe will get it right? Heavy stuff.
Seriously, something like this happened to me and my wife. In 2007 I was living in MS and engaged to my ex-fiancee. I came up to NYC to visit my sister and her husband for Halloween. We went to a party at this club that was packed. Some friends of my sister's co-worker show up and all I remember about them in my drunken haze was some hot girl dressed as Rainbow Brite wearing thigh high stockings and a low cut shirt. Fast forward to 2011 and I am now living and working in NYC, and I am finally moving on with my personal life after my ex called off the weeding. I go on a blind date with this girl (my wife) and we hit it off. About 3 months into dating, she is telling me about this guy she used to date and then I realize that it was my sister's co-worker. We started talking about him some more and then she tells me that she dressed as Rainbow Brite as Halloween one year. We put 2 and 2 together and realized that we had met each other in passing 5 years earlier. It was surreal. What are the odds that I find this girl 5 years later in NYC? I mean there are over 8 million people here.

Showing our further divide: that's one of my favorite episodes.

He did already know. And it wasn't a throwaway line this year. Him stating that he was going to marry robin even though she can't have kids was what flipped his mother into one of acceptance of her new daughter-in-law. Robin's infertility played a key role this season, and displayed Barney's maturation (he also admitted in the episode when Robin isn't pregnant that he doesn't really want the responsibility of kids).

I think they are one of the best. I love those two together, and it redeemed the Barney character, who would was really just a rapey joke-machine. He is now an actual person, and a far better character. I really don't get why people want Barney to be a permanent man-child.

You misunderstand what i want barney to be completely
First off, Barney and Robin have already proven that they dont work the first time they dated. Theyre too similar. It was forced then and its forced now
Secondly, i dont want Barney to be a man child his whole life, quite the opposite. About 2-3 seasons ago after him and Robin broke up the first time, you began to see him truely change and grow up. He met his father and got past those issues, he started having healthy relationships, he became a better friend and really worked out his deep seeded issues that made him the way he was for so long. It really was some of their best work of character development getting him to grow up, move past robin, get into mature relationships with girls he actually loved for more than sex.
Then the writer took all that character development and took a big stinky shite on it. NAHHH HE WANTS ROBIN BACK GTFO OF HERE NORA. Nora was freakin perfect for Barney, he truly cared about her, and they ruined that by making him cheat on her with Robin and ruin all that development he had in the Nora relationship.
Then Robin returns the favor by SHITTING ALL OVER BARNEY and not leaving Kumar for him. He then grew past it and had one of many true moments of "im finally over her"
Then you have the stripper, that wasnt as good as nora but still way better than Robin. You see him grow some more and work out his jealousy issues and he shows the ability to commit by having an AWESOME proposal at the end of the season
But wait NAHH ITS STILL ROBIN FOR SURE. And they explain it by spending one scene of "oh yeah prenups and stuff. They broke up" soo fricking lame
And then the Patrice tragedy? Ughhh

If by Patrice Tragedy you mean the part where we're all supposed to see how grown up Barney is as evidenced by him doing all the same shite he's done the entire length of the show, then yeah, that didn't really do it for me.

They put some dressing over the scene by making it this big trick and it was cute and all that jazz. It even worked on me for a second
Then i looked back and thought about it and was just like "oh hell fricking no. That was terrible"

Oh Barney you've really grown out of lying to and manipulating women for sex, and you showed me that by lying to me and manipulating me for marriage. YAY!

Where did Barney run off too?

Just watched. Great episode. Really starting to like the mother. If they quit the filler crap this series could end on a really high note.
