My only point is that I think Watson probably ended up being more attractive than book Hermione was meant to be by the end of the series, but no one could have predicted that in 2000 or whenever they started casting.
Rowling has said that she decided to hire Watson over a phone interview, sight unseen, and she did not see her until the contracts were signed and they started production. We she saw her she said that Watson was too pretty to be Hermoine. She also later said she was glad to be wrong.

This probably doesn't make the new Hermione happy being picked.

Oh speaking of toxicity look who showed up.
Oh yeah that's the problem not the droves of idiots already attacking the girl online for not being white enough, or the hardcore Potter fans that will harass the cast members if the show isn't perfect, or the creepy dudes who will immediately start sexually harassing the girl once she starts to hit her late teens like they did with Emma. The moment Emma turned 18 she had papparzi trying to take photos under her skirt and there was even a countdown timer to the date she turned 18.

But now the Left lunatics will come at all of them and demand they have the CORRECT views, or else risk being cancelled. Stuff no kid, actor or otherwise, should have to deal with at their age.

I think it is inaccurate to say that descriptions are ambiguous as to race therefore we don't know what race they are. JK Rowling goes out of her way to specifically describe some characters as black:
Dean Thomas: Specifically described as a "Black boy" in the books.
Angelina Johnson: Described as "a tall black girl".
Blaise Zabini: Described as "a tall black boy".
Kingsley Shacklebolt: Described as "a tall black wizard".
Hermoine is not described that way. I think it is safe to assume that a British girl is white. Just like if there was a student from Africa, you would probably assume that person is black.
I don't have any issues with the casting, but I get the gripes about Snape.

The Left will demand the kids renounce JK or brand them phobes who want to exterminate trans.
Yes, creeps will likely focus on the Hermione character, as stated that’s what happens.
But it wasn’t HP fans who said the series would be more authentic & faithful adaptation to the books, now was it?

Ah you've seen the series? Damn you got a time machine? Clearly you must have because given your knowledge how faithful the show is to the books

Read the books, saw the movies. I know that Severus Snape isn’t black.
Don’t need a Time Machine for that, dumbass.

You only care when it suits you though. You were in the Foundation thread talking about it being a good show. The gender and race swaps of the main characters in that one didn't matter to you there. I guess it's only woke if you've read the source?

So if it's not 100% faithful then you're out. I'm sure you'd apply that to everything else right?

Btw, haven't read the whole thread, has 1987 chimed in yet that the 12 year old cast as Hermione isn't hot enough for him?

The UK tabloids had a countdown to her 16th birthday b/c that's their age of consent.

Yeah, I did like it because it had good actors. Actors I knew from prior works.
And I also said I would cede to those who had read the book and knew the characters. .
More importantly, I care more when it sticks to the source material.
