Neville has a great arc, and maybe the most brave, loyal, and true kid at Hogwarts

The books did a much better job setting up that Neville could just have easily been the chosen one.

He also pulled the sword of Gryffindor out of the sorting hat.

Think the girl was in Matilda in London.

The torture he was subjected to when the Death eaters ran Hogwarts. He took it, because he didn't want it happening to anyone else. And he never broke, never betrayed.

Kid was badass.

In the show he was just that goofy looking kid, until the Battle of Hogwarts

Yep, if done well and it pays attention to the details, this series could be HUGE and so much better than the movies.

I'm shocked! I was expecting LGBTQ+ persons of color. They cast three white kids

Seems like they nailed it with Ron and Harry. Hermione seems a little off but not terrible casting.

Little too dark huh?

I mean, yeah. Hermione is white

I don’t have an issue with it necessarily. It’s not as drastic as the Snape casting was

Hermione is never described as white in the books (her race is never described, to my knowledge).

And its not like this girl is nigerian or something

Hermione doesn’t impact the story as much as Snape in that way. I’m more than fine with this casting. Seeing her in some audience vids from Matilda, I think she will be great as Hermione. I have more faith in her than Harry who doesn’t have green eyes like we want again. She looks like she can pull off the teeth better than Emma who gave up on the dentals too.

I have zero issues with this casting from a book perspective. Hopefully they can act.
The Snape casting on the other hand…..

I mean there are many descriptions that literally everyone knows mean white but you are playing a game here. Whatever.

Her race is never explicitly described. Rowling has said she envisioned Hermione as white but also said she's fine if readers want to envision her as another race.

I actually am almost 100% positive there’s a line that says “Hermiones white face stuck out from behind a tree” or something

Other than him being black (which, whatever), is there anything specifically about the actor that people don't like? I'm not familiar with him.

I know people have expressed concern that it just makes James and Sirrius seem racist, but there are a lot of reasons a white person and a black person can not like each other. Also, we have the books and the movies that are essentially 1-to-1. My only interest in this series is if they went a different route with some of the story lines. Otherwise, what's the point?

I don't remember that line, but I'm fairly certain that adjective would be used in that instance to describe fear or being nervous, not that she's white

Im not playing a game, I am asking a question. I have read the books many times and I dont remember it being stated or "many descriptions that literally everyone knows mean white ". What are these many descriptions? All i remember is brown, bushy hair and big teeth. If there are others please let me know cause I dont know them. I have always pictured her as white but I am fine with her not being white and so is the source material.

The closest it gets is in Prisoner of Azkaban. This is the direct quote from when they are in the forest getting Buckbeak.

“Hermione’s white face was sticking out from behind a tree.”

This could be taken as a scared/pale face instead of white skin if you would so choose.

I always pictured her as a white suburban kid from the UK.

This casting doesnt change anything though so who cares? Seems like something only insecure figs would spend more than 2 seconds worrying about.
