Knowing what you know how HBO ended the series... Would Game of Thrones been better off if the series ran out of money and ended at the Red Wedding?

HBO was already seriously deviating from the books at the Red Wedding point and strong hints that it was going to be a shite show beyond the red wedding so I stopped watching.

Joffry Dead
Kahl Drago Dead
Stark Patriachy Dead

I am quite satisfied with the Red Wedding being a literary tragedy ending on screen

If you were going to end it prematurely, do it after Cersei blows up the Sept, Jon gets named King of the North, and Dany finally leaves Mereen. It’s basically where I end it in my head now.

yes…
last scene is the end of season six, Daenerys crossing the sea with dragons flying overhead. I can fill in the rest in my imagination

anything I came up with would be better than what we got

It may not be possible to end the story in a satisfying manner.

I mean one of the most talented writers in a generation couldn’t do it and just quit trying.

I think one issue is that westeros feels like a living, breathing world.

Nothing ever really ends in the real world. There's always something going on. Westeros would be the same way.

Trying to have a tidy ending for dozens of characters and plot lines all at the same time is impossible.

That was bullshite. I wanted to see him at the front of a hundred thousand screaming horse riders salting half The Reach.

Joffrey died after the Red Wedding in the book and show. In fact, Joffrey dies in season 4, along with Tyrion's trial, Viper v. Mountain and Tywins death.

Now you could argue that it should have ended after season 4. But if you cut it off after the Red Wedding you would be missing some great TV

Yep. It was still excellent after season 3 and stayed very good until the end of 6. Season 7 is just crap right out of the box, and we even waited an extra year for them to squeeze it out of their assholes.

When I suggest this show, I always tell people to stop at the end of 6.

Agree with the end of season 6. Battle of Bastards and then Winds of Winter might be the greatest set of back to back episodes of any series.

I agree with this, except my head canon is that the show ending isnt exactly what actually happened, it's just a myth like the stuff the maesters passed down for hundreds of years, some of it may be based on the truth, but details of how everything actually played out get lost through the years.

I had finished the books to Dance with Dragons. Their was no way for HBO to do the story any justice beyond Storm of Swords.

I did watch the Joffry death episode and didn't remember it was season 4. But I have not watched any other episode beyond season 3. I've probably only been spoiled on some limited details of the Jaime story line and that was recently.

Knowing the books will never be finished I'm perfectly fine with my imagination from the books beyond the Red Wedding(Feast of Crows/ Dance with Dragons).

It may have been possible before season 8. Now people have such a bad taste in their mouth that anything they try wouldn’t be enough.

The internet outrage is way overblown. Yeah the ending isn't canon, but it's still an enjoyable watch if you treat it as fantasy/myth. Season 8 is far worse than 4 and 5. 6 is half decent, 7 only a few good episodes. 8 is off the rails

Ehh, that's debatable. He is amazing at world-building and character creation.

In the books, Mance Rayder and "Catelyn Stark" are still around.

Still refuse to believe that’s how the books end. Too bad George won’t finish the series in his lifetime.

Except there was a lot of material from Storm of Swords covered in Season 4 and HBO did a great job with it
