Apparently, HBO is working on not one, not two, but three spinoffs of the wildly popular show.

That's according to George R. R. Martin. Except he doesn't call them "spinoffs" -- he's not a fan of that term -- but "successor shows."

In a personal blog post updating his fans, the author of the books on which the show is based said:

"We have had five different GAME OF THRONES successor shows in development (I mislike the term "spinoffs") at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely.

"The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer."

I thought HBO confirmed there is only 1 spinoff/prequel in the works, or getting green lit

I stopped believing GRRM and his announcements of timelines for releases of media a long time ago.

He apparently mislikes the word "dislike" too.

I’m thinking the guy is full of himself. Loves to go on shows to get his dick stroked while ignoring the work that got him famous in the first place. Is that how you want to be remembered, George?

Is this why we didn’t learn shite about the night king? They were saving it for this?

These spinoffs are why we aren’t getting complete “closure” in GOT.

What should have been a complete story has been turned into setup for other cash cows

That’s probably part of it.

I think We’ll get a lot more of the NK in these.

Or not.

There is definitely more lore in this franchise to dive into. Good that they aren't going to just try and wrap everything up in a pretty little package. This is good.

Fun fact - George RR Martin will respond to questions you comment on his blog. He has personally responded to 2 or 3 of mine.

Good, because he will be bombarded with mine if the end of the show is not as good as LOST’s. He really shat all over that ending despite only writing half a book in a decade, so it will be well deserved.

frick that.

GoT is the greatest show in television history.

Considering all of the backstory to it, I don't see how anyone could not want more of the same.

You realize this is an opinion right? So of course there might be people that are not interested.

Personally I’ll watch for sure but I’m not going to get my hopes up too much because it seems in general TV show spinoffs don’t live up the original.

Obviously. But that poster didn't say they weren't gonna watch. They insinuated that it was over saturation, implying that it shouldn't be made at all.
