Gendry - fodder for GRRM's "sometimes bad things happen to good people" message.

There are two schools of thought here:

Gendry is important in the next books, so they have developed a story arc to keep him relevant.

Gendry is not important in the next books, so they have developed a story arc to make him tragic.

pretty much. I think killing Gendry this early in the show is a mistake, but whatever.

i feel like it's option 2. he is no longer needed as someone for Arya to bounce her thoughts off of.

i dont think they kill him

i think they try to bleed him (like edric) and i think Davos (somehow freed) convinces them to stop

Is there no one left among those who were strapping rats in a bucket to people's chests back in season 1 (or 2 I forget). Any of the Mountain's people? And I don't suppose she had a run in with Locke since he is kind of Roose's guy. He would be a great one to have her go off on.

Gotta be somebody satisfactory she can go all stick stick on.

Polliver is still alive in the show and is the person who has Needle at the moment. I'm sure they'll just flip him and the Tickler and have Polliver meet Arya and the Hound. Polliver is the one who kills Lommy in the show anyway, so Arya has good reason to kill him.

kind of think that show messed up by not putting in edric, but I understand the reason to combine characters.

Maybe. Unless it's done really well.

Maybe Gendry eventually finds his way to Bravos, only to cross paths with Cat of the Canals who is somehow forced to give him the Gift.

What are they going to do with the Blackfish? It looks like he is headed to the RW with Robb.

he is either only escorting them there or he will fight his way out and escape

i imagine if he's escorting he'll give them some line about how he was there to make sure they had a safe travel but is in no way interested in seeing walder frey or his idiot nephew marry frey's ugly daughter

IMO, it limits the outcome of the books if Gendry is dead and doesn't return. I doubt he'd take the throne, but to never see him in battle would be shitty for GRRM. I've been waiting for the second coming of Robert(in battle) since GoT.

Plus it will kill the possible Jon-Gendry alliance at the end.

I don't see Blackfish escaping if he's there in the room, he wouldn't leave Cat behind(unless they don't do Stoneheart on the show).

Brushing up on my Storm of Swords (via Wiki OI&F), I think the posters who predicted it's bleeding/leaching of Gendry that's being shown in the previews are on target.

If you think about it, it is pretty good timing for tossing in a royal-blood leach for Robb and one for Joffrey. (I can't remember if Balon has taken the dive in the t.v. show yet. If not, a leach for him would work fine too).

So, looks like it's a little leaching time for Gendry coming up. There are some up sides to this: Hopefully it means Davos is out of the dungeons and in good enough graces to convince Stannis not to burn Gendry. It means Gendry might have some time left yet. And it means Melissandre is gonna probably be pissed which is a good thing in my book.

Oh, and to the poster waayy upthread who linked to the youtube of the clueless german guy's episode reviews - . Those are hilarious - Margarine and Sensi. Men in Black, etc. etc.

About 20 minutes in and this is already probably one of the better episodes.

Pretty sure they're going to try staying very close to the book as they can with the RW. Weiss and Benioff said that scene is the main reason why they wanted ASOIAF to be a TV show.

I enjoy reading the non book reader thread and their theories when I know what happens.

One gem:

-Looks like the Frey wedding is a pretty big deal, if even Lord Bolton is going.

Awwww....aren't they just the cutest right before they get bitchslapped?

They've done a very good job about building up the threat of House Bolton, but they're kinda just skimmed over the Freys really. Wish they would have built them up some more this season by having the Freys in Harrenhal.
