The main issue with the show is that I don’t “like” any of the characters. I don’t empathize with any of them, I am not entertained by any of them (except Daemon occasionally), I don’t understand their motivations or goals (and I don’t really care to), so they just all seem like incompetent people with no agency wandering around aimlessly killing each other.
Joffery was a count, but you understood why he was a count, what he wanted out of being a count, and he was fun to root against. You got to know Tywin intimately. His motivations and what drove him made him a compelling villain. The Hound and Gregor Clegane, even Khal Drogo had more character development on screen than most of the characters in HOTD. We knew who these characters were, why they were, what they wanted, and how they wanted to get it.
Is there any reason Rhenyra wants the crown other than her father telling her she’s the heir? Is there anything she wants to do with the crown? Does she have any agenda or long term strategy beyond “win the war, sit the throne”?
Aegon was only king because his mother forced him to be King. Why did Alecent want that for him? What does she want for the world? What is her vision?
I understand that one Hightower’s goals and aims. He’s literally the only developed character, but they basically make him a one-dimensional mustache twirling villain.

That was explained in the show. She misunderstood her husband’s dying wishes and now knows she misunderstood.
I think it’s funny that Aegon is turning out to be the only halfway likable character this season. Would not have guessed that after seasons one and two.

Fair but GRRM has said he is pissed at HOTD because they don't listen to him. He apparently pointed out several flaws in the show that they refuse to fix for one reason or another. If Tom Brady tells you to run an out route, don't tell him why you have to run a post instead. Run the damn out route.

I think that's the point, Rhenyra doesn't have set goals because she doesn't actually have experience in any type of ruling. She's the ultimate nepobaby and while her intentions as ruler may not be inherently bad her lack of experience and knowledge is hurting her and her people

I did enjoy the dragon fight, although I was team Sheepstealer. He held pretty tough against 3 other dragons.
Also loved Aegon’s dragon rising from the dead. Great scene.
And I don’t blame Ulf a bit.

I get that the Blacks haven't given the seeds much respect for their loyalty, but this isn't a good move for him. Ormund barely even tolerates Daeron's dragon and mentioned that you can't trust common blood that rose to power.
I'm curious if they'll be able to appeal to Hugh or if him turning will have something to do with his wife? He doesn't seem like a simpleton.
I get that the seeds are looking for more and the Blacks are pretty foolish for not making sure they're taken care of, but obviously the Greens don't view them any better than the Blacks, the Blacks are just honest with them.

The first scene was Alys bewitching him as his mom. The other scene was Alicent trying to use his attraction to her to get him to lower his guard so she could betray him and save her daughter. He’s definitely got mommy issues, but I don’t believe Alicent has reciprocal feelings. Just manipulating him.
