I don’t get it. Go hide out and let them pass
You think three guys could just walk off the road and hide in the forest??
Yeah that would actually make sense...which isn't what HBO writers are going for.

Episode started off REAL slow. Am I the only one who's getting tired of Rhaenyra's constant whining? Every episode feels like another round of second-guessing, complaining about her council, or lamenting how unfair everything is.
BUT..
They saved it with some incredible dragon moments.
I honestly felt bad for Sheepstealer. He never asked to be part of this war, yet he stood his ground against three dragons, took an absolute beating, and still appears to have survived. I hope we're not done with him yet.
I also didn't see Sunfyre returning. The foreshadowing was there in hindsight, but Aegon Dracarysing their asses with a dragon everyone thought was dead, unleashing fire on the battlefield, was the episode's most memorable scenes.
The dragon battles continue to be the highlight of the season.

And Daemon. This show sucks and their limited utilization of Matt Smith and the character is sad.
Caraxes is the GOAT dragon.

So we could get the payoff at the end of last night’s episode.

Seems to be a focus of this season. She has a lesson to learn on how to rule effectively. She’s gonna have to get it together soon though.

Am I the only one getting tired of the entire show?
Season one was really nice. Season two had a good bit of issues but had 3-4 redeeming episodes. This season has just been a turd.
Every single character outside of Ormund. He is legit the only well written character.
There could be a massive battle in the next episode and every single main character dies and I wouldn't care a bit because the writers has made virtually all of them suck. It's kind of baffling that we could be in season 3 and not care about any characters.
Said it in the book spoilers thread but this episode seemed like it was directed by someone at CW and whoever decided to spend this much time on the witch at Harrenhal for two seasons now needs to be tarred and feathered. They saw the feedback of how they ruined Daemons character in season 2 by have him halucinating for 5 episodes with a dumb withc and they doubled down on it and spent even more time on her in season 3. Just awful.
At this point just kill all the characters (hopefully Myseria and her awful accent first), change the lore and make the dragons able to talk and just give me a show about the dragons.

The episode was a little odd, but not terrible IMO.
It starts off odd seeing Rhaenyra unraveling to Helena, trying to get her to literally tell her the happenings of the entire continent.
The relationship between Daemon and his daughter is actually pretty touching. I would've thought that he, even knowing she may be in danger, wouldn't worry about it and would just focus on his own interests. He was put in a tough situation.
Everything going on in Harren Haul is just way too stagnant and unwatchable at this point. Aemond now thinks that he can claim the throne from there with an empty and destroyed castle, no army, no Vhagar, and a handful of old dragon eggs that if hatched, may be formidable against the Blacks in 30 years?
The dragon fight scene and exposure of sheep stealer's rider was interesting. Although, if it were those 3 vs. Vhagar, at least 2 of them aren't escaping that alive and the only way any survive is if Caraxys takes a firm hold on Vhagar while the other 2 are basically being sacrificed. I don't think they would've survived at all if not for Daemon.

Caraxes has really become my favorite dragon throughout both shows. He's got an attitude and style all his own.
Here is the one nitpick I have really become aware of in the last few episodes. The cognitive dissonance between Rhaenyra's character portrayal from teen to adult. Gone is the smoother, quieter, badass that killed a wild boar and interrupted a meeting on her dragon to an overacting, over annunciating queen that shrieked and looked physically unsure and shaky while wielding a sword to cut of Otto's head. i like the actress who portrays Rhaenyra but she has been overacting along with Mysaria in this past season. I would like her to be a little more cool and resolute in the face of adversity like she was as a teen and in the previous seasons. We all change but this is noticeable and a diversion from the established character. Director's fault IMO. A piano doesn't write the tune.

I’ve been saying it for years. Rhaenyra sucks. Bad.
I don’t know what half the GoT fan base sees in her other than Dr. Who is her bedmate.

Daemon and Aemond are their best two characters and they've been hamstrung for the season. You sort of plod along waiting for a nice dragon scene.

I’ve been waiting for him to show back up. Once he started talking loud I figured he would.

Yeah it wasn’t subtle. When they showed the five of them alone with a large army approaching, it was pretty clear what was going to happen.
Like had been said in this thread, Aaegon is unexpectedly the character they are doing a great job with this season.

Think about Aegon's situation through his eyes at that moment. His entire world has come crashing down since the battle at Rook's Rest.
He's a cripple. His dragon is dead. Rhaenyra took King's Landing and sits the iron throne. He doesn't know if he still has any allies left in King's Landing or if everyone had either been killed or bent the knee when Rhaenyra took the city. His side's only dragon rider was Aemond, who has already tried to kill him. He doesn't know if he has any allies left but knows he's being hunted by the blacks and Aemond.
He thinks his only choices are to be a coward and spend the rest of his days hiding until Aemond or the blacks find him. Or he can go out with sword in hand and have an honorable death.

As a leader, Rhaenyra is just as weak as Viserys. Her idiotic counselling with Alicent and heeding the advice of a former whore (Myseria) is idiotic. The writers have all but neutered Daemon & Aemond.
I guess viewers should feel lucky that we aren't having to witness half a dozen live birthing scenes (season I), but this season is crap for the most part.

Weird, nonchalant vs. God awful “accents”. Both are in a battle for the most grating personalities on television!

My guess as well.
Especially given her response when he stumbled in.

How did we go from Sunfyre's rotting corpse to him wiping out an Army?
