I do not believe anyone mention that we start to see the Queen go mad. There were, IMO, quite a few moments where they showed her confused and mentally disengaged. Am I the only one that noticed this, that the queen is losing it under stress.

She is definitely stressed. my fear is that they make her being "mad" a misconception. Meaning they make it seem like she is making the best decisions she can or at least that she has good intentions but the results of her best intentioned decisions make her seem mad to the outside world. It would be lame but it would fit with the "Everything is an accident" theme of the show so far.

How I felt with the score...

I thought if this person puts one more GONG in there on a cut scene I am going to kill the man who did it. Enjoyed the episode but it might have been the most annoying score for any episode in all of Westeros.

I don’t know how much more they could foreshadow the “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” theme with her. You had the deterioration of viserys last a whole season, you had the speech viserys gave daemon in his dream at harrenhal, you had the speech alicent gave rhaenyra in her chambers this past episode…etc. whether or not rhaenyra actually goes insane is beside the point, as the outcome will be the same and actually more relatable

This is exactly what the writers did not do with Daenerys and exactly why it sucked so bad

I think it's more so "heavy is the head that wears the crown".

I don't think they made it look at all like she's making the best decisions that she can though. She definitely could've legitimized Corlys's kids (and he very aptly explained why her denial was bullshite and skewed perspective on her part). Her response to Alicent telling her she's going to have to make hard choices is a very spoiled, naive "Well "I" won't have to" response. Her blowing off Hugh the Hammer when he expresses wanting somewhere to live is very flippant and shows she's not capable of juggling her job. And she's calling all of her previous Small Council betrayers and refuses to bring them to KL. That is all 100% her doing and incompetency on her part.

Then there's the refusal to grieve her oldest son because of what she has to do.

I think there's different ways that her going mad can be presented and it wouldn't be at all surprising if the stress on top of her grief makes her snap. And that it's just compounded by the "flip of the coin" when it comes to Targayen sanity.

All of this is true but I'd argue that every one of those decisions were made under the umbrella of having the best intentions despite being dumb, wrong decisions.

I am fine with this path so long as there is an eventual snap moment where she goes mad queen. My fear is that the writers never write her to snap and her bad decisions just lead to bad outcomes and she is portrayed as being a victim of poor decisions instead of a true mad queen. We need a mad queen, not just a well intentioned dumb queen.

Relatable is fine to a point but just like all the events leading to war being accidents and misunderstandings, its boring and lame. I am fine with this being the path to a mad queen but she needs to snap.

That sucked so bad cuz it made no sense. She spent a decade trying to take the throne and as soon as she gets it, she starts burning people for no reason. Rhaenyra has plenty of reason to go mad queen. Again, I am fine with this being the groundwork for her to go mad but the audience will be left wanting more if she never snaps and just goes down making bad choices for good reasons.

Maybe, but they've had a lot of good casting. The actor who played Joffery killed the role.
As an adult, he played a fantastic role as Byron Hedges in House of Guinness.

I gotta agree to disagree on this one. She's just incompetent and incapable of ruling without letting her emotions rule her.

As the show goes, I don't know that anyone goes as mad as Aerys did (the Mad King in GOT) or Ceresi.

We can agree to disagree on point one.

I also don't think she will go scorched earth like the mad king but we need her to get angry and do angry queen shite. Just being an overwhelmed ball of anxiety is boring TV.

I agree, but she and Alicent are still quite nerfed in this series. Just the fact that they have them talking to each other at all (other than saying the most vile things possible) is a huge shift.

Anyone watch tonight?

Pretty good filler, I think the Hightower cousin has some batshit plan that’s going to work.

Rhaenarya has way too many people unsure of her, she will be challenged whether internal or external.

If she could do more than burn bridges she could hold her throne but she is extremely good at pissing off allies.

It was a pretty good episode. I thought there might appear to be more damage done with Coryls, Hugh, and Ulf by this point but they don't seem very spurned. Though, Corlys is basically avoiding her and she's very dismissive with the dragon seeds.

The interaction between Daemon and his daughter was the best part of the episode IMO, and it was neat that Cyraxis led him to her.

The Targaryen Queen is pregnant, and the timespans are hard to follow, but Alicient seems concerned and signs point to Aemond.

Ormund Hightower is about as crazy as anyone, despite seeming normal at first. Daeron seems like a young Vsyarus. I feel bad for him.

At some point I'm guessing some greens will be scheming with Hugh and Ulf.

What was it Tyrion told Dany, something about if you kill people devoted to you then not many people will be devoted to you or something like that?

Rhaenyra seems to be ignoring that little maxim.

Hugh is helping her out and Rhaenyra just keeps treating him like crap. And her little court of advisors, that’s quite the motley crew.

I don’t think there’s been a huge time lapse since the battle at Rook’s Rest. Both of the dead dragon bodies there aren’t really decomposed and they haven’t even moved Melys’ body off the castle wall rubble yet. So I don’t think much time has passed since Aegon got burned, maybe a couple of weeks at most.

I think Alicent looked concerned about Helaena being pregnant because she was afraid that the baby’s life would be in danger if Rhaenyra found out about it. The public thinks Aegon is dead, but if Helaena births a son then that brings Rhaenyra’s legitimacy into question because Aegon’s son would be his heir to the throne.

Olivia Cooke talks about this in the after show clip a little bit. Says that she knows at this point that Helaena will want to carry the child to term but that she will likely either be forced to drink Moon Tea to abort the baby or the baby will be killed at birth because of its claim to the throne.

lol this show has now completely fallen apart. There’s no story or characters anymore outside of whenever they want to build one as a threat that of course won’t be a threat. It’s a daytime soap with the occasional dragon. Oh yea and we got another irrelevant rape scene just in case you’re not getting the point.

Please, for everyone's sake, stop watching the show.
