Paul Feig has reflected on the vitriolic response to his women-led “Ghostbusters” reboot, claiming it was similar to criticism faced by Hillary Clinton during her 2016 campaign for president.

“Some really brilliant author or researcher or sociologist needs to write a book about 2016 and how intertwined [our film was] with Hillary [Clinton] and the anti-Hillary movement,” Feig said. “It was just this year where everyone went to a boiling point. I don’t know if it was [having] an African-American president for eight years [that] teed them up or something, but they were just ready to explode… By the time, in 2014 or 2015, when I announced I was going to [make] it, it started.”

“It’s crazy how people got nuts about women trying to be in power or trying to be in positions that they weren’t normally in,” Feig said. “It was an ugly, ugly year.”

That's one way to turn poop into chocolate ice cream. Claim that your fiasco was a historic crack in time and that you were used as a Birth of a Nation cautionary tale to drive voters away from Hillary.

It's sad how some of these guys that used to make really funny and really good movies or TV shows just fricking lose their minds altogether.

FFS - Hollywood is such a bubble they truly believe politics dictate the average person's interest or habits. Hilary Clinton being a cold fish and 8 years of Obama was a 1% factor at best.

If you are talking about an all-female reboot being a larger part of it, there's a case there for sure since there's always going to be resistance when you make wholesale changes to a beloved IP like Ghostbusters.

The prevailing factor is that it wasn't very funny tho.

He created Freaks and Geeks and directed some of the best episodes of The Office while serving as an executive producer.

He also co-wrote and acted in Heavyweights.

So the word never doesn't really apply here.

Director of unsuccessful movie doesn’t want to believe he didn’t make a good movie and blames other things instead.

This happens literally every time a movie doesn’t reach its expected level of success. This is only a story because it’s political and the right needs boogey men to hold up.

Yeah, he directed so many good shows. I'm also a big fan of Bridesmaids.

Who would have thought otherwise?

I mean, look at this article and try not to laugh out loud:
11 New 'Ghostbusters' Quotes That Prove The Reboot Is As Funny As The Original

Let's look at a few of these hilarious quotes:
quote:

"OK, I don't know if it was a race thing or a lady thing, but I'm mad as hell."

Ha-ha! She jumped off the stage but no one caught her. Physical humor and biting social commentary; that's my jam!
quote:

"That stuff went everywhere, by the way. In every crack. Very hard to wash off."

Ghosts are some nasty creatures and women need more time to clean out . . . areas. This movie makes you laugh and teaches you things.
quote:

"Is it the boobs you don't like? Because I can make them bigger."

Oh Kevin, you scamp.
quote:

"No one should have to encounter that kind of evil. Except you girls, I think you can handle it."

Get it, it's something horrible but THEY have to face it. COMEDY!
quote:

"Sharon, I think I'm having a flashback."

Remember Ozzy Osbourne? Remember how rockers took a lot of drugs? Get it?
quote:

"Kevin, can you answer the phone?"

"I can't, it's in the fishtank."

Why is the phone is the fishtank? Kevin is SO CRAZY!!

All of that is Grade-A material and not some crap cobbled together by someone who thought directing was just having actors ad-lib their scenes . . . obviously.

It's only a story because of how tone deaf it is. The right aren't the ones politicizing it when Feig is connecting "women in power" to "women in positions they shouldn't be" (read: As Ghostbusters). That's all on Feig.

Again, literally every director who has ever made a movie that didn't do as well as expected has a reason why it wasn't their fault. It's in the nature of that line of work as they are project to project and rely on their reputation in their community for future work.

I know right wing outrage culture perpetually needs a target for their manufactured anger, but this is a reach.
