I just don't care any more

I wonder if the hardcore book readers are somewhat happy to have watched the show and seen the bullshite that it’s gonna end with and that it won’t be as hard to take if the books ever do get finished

Martin has stated he has it in his estate that no one can finish it but him.
I'd prefer Sanderson to keep focusing on the Cosmere

I read all the books one summer and was pumped for this book. That was 2013. Almost 10 years ago.
Just missed me by a decade.

How do you think I feel. I started reading these in 2000
I gave up quite a long time ago

I’m not a writer but 500 pages when you have a good outline of the story already drafted seems doable in less than half a year for sure

I refuse to believe the show ended how George plans to end it. I’ll continue to hold out hope.

not nearly enough time was spent on the King Bran's first buffet or Dany's first meal in Westeros

1150 pages in, 500 to go….
How about make a Part 1 and a Part 2 and give us the first 800-1000 pages. Just find a good stop point and break it up. A little messy, but seems like the obvious thing to do at this point.

If you have a good work ethic, sure. When has this fricker ever shown to have that?

He’s been saying he’s close for a decade.
This is just some more bullshite from him to get the suckers to buy whatever ASOIF spin off he’s working on.
The main series will never be finished, and he shouldn’t get pissy with the fans that made him rich for being frustrated about it.
Eta- I also doubt he’s got 1,100 pages. He’s probably still sitting on his outline and some doodles of food and sex scenes.

Really? You think it’s just a coincidence that Bran is the first pov chapter?

I dont even care anymore, and I suspect a lot of other people are in the same boat. This is a book that I would have pre-ordered a hardback of, full stop a few years ago. Now I can pretty much say with certainty that I'm going to wait to read all the inevitably terrible reviews it's going to get, then probably eventually buy a used copy somewhere. The zeitgeist has moved on, and GRRM has only himself to blame.
I suspect he's lying out of his arse about his progress.
Just a couple years ago he told his own publisher it was ready for editing and to be published before Christmas of that year.
October came and he was "Not done yet"
November came and he was "Not done yet"
December came and he was "Not done yet"
Then he finally came out and said he wasn't near being done. And that's where it's been for years.
So I don't buy his 500 pages left bullshite.

So WoW is going to be 2-3x as long as any of the other books and after 11 years he’s roughly 2/3 of the way through?
We’d be lucky to get this by 2030, if ever. No way in hell does he finish the last one before GRRM’s death. He’s already 74.

What's hilarious is the interviewer mentioned that he should split up the book (if it's 1100+ pages) to publish what he has and he just fricking gaslighted the guy.
He's such a douche.

Martin has frequently expressed that he’s exasperated with fans and interviewers constantly nagging him about his slow progress on The Winds of Winter
At his age and BMI, exasperation could kill him.

At least Scott Lynch has absolutely crippling anxiety that he finally got under control.
He supposedly got it under control 2 years ago, and still no word on Thorn of Emberlain. Granted, the guy is a wreck - buying a house was so nerve racking for him, he completely stopped writing for a year - but he could probably spend less time bitching about Trump on twitter and sexually harrassing young and upcoming writers, and spend a little more time finishing the fricking book.

It’s sad that Martin refused to finish the books. If he had finished the story the right way and the last book coincided with the last season of the show (it even could haven been extended for a season or 2), he could have a bonafide IP empire in GoT. But instead we get D&D tanking the show and Martin not finishing the original story. At least we have Targaryen history to work off of.

frick this whole world. Didn’t watch HOTD. Likely won’t read these at this point. I simply don’t care enough about Westeros now. I read the first 5 like my life depended on it too
