This could have been done so much better. Jon should have killed the Night King and been hailed as a hero. I'm talking full on parade in Winterfell, let Tormund chant 'King in the Norf' all night, all while Jon keeps bowing to Dany. Let it really get under her skin until eventually she cracks.
Individually, this episode was great television. Overall, season 8 fails due to major structuring issues. The White Walker storyline was essentially meaningless and cheapened even more so by shoehorning Arya in as the hero because they couldn't fit her anywhere else in the story.

It's not the fact that Dany descended into violent insanity that's the problem, it's how quickly she escalated into it.

I don’t have a problem with her going Mad Queen tbh. One of my main complaints is that this show started off as one where every detail mattered. Now it has become “just keep the big stuff and stupid people won’t notice the little stuff”.

How quickly should one properly snap into going truly mad?
Everyone she truly loved is dead or betrayed her. Literally every one. Every one who ever held her in check.
The only thing in the world she has left is a desire for revenge and a huge dragon.
1 + 1 = 2

I get that - but that’s an HBO and GRRM problem that has been anticipated since season 3 when HBO realized they were outpacing the books.
90%+ of writers/stories are screwed when production takes priority over prose.

That would be just as stupid. We saw only about 4 survive.

Here’s a direct quote from Dany, season 2
“When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who wronged me. We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground”
Seems like this has been laid out pretty early in the show, no?
This is more to SFP than you BTW

If true - this confirms it was GRRM’s plan all along and makes some posters in this thread look retarded.
It is almost assuredly in his outline.
No chance it’s as poorly done though

I’ve always found it very possible that Dany eventually goes mad, but it won’t be this sloppily done.

I can buy the frustration with things being rushed. Season 7 started that train and it hasn’t slowed down much.
I didn’t think the show had the nads to heel turn a main character despite all the foreshadowing.

How was it done sloppily? She said she would do this in season 2

Just because it was brought up doesn’t mean it was built up. But there’s no point in engaging with you on this issue since you’ve made it abundantly clear that you would love the episode almost no matter what happened.

Just curious, what are your thoughts about Martin’s plan for Jaime? I was/am certainly upset he didn’t kill Cersei, but I find it hard to believe D&D, for all their faults, deviated on this one.

The blood lust/snapping thing worked for me now that she has no one to reign her in.
And I’ve been critical of the show, so you know I’m not a homer.
Tyrion selling out Varys was worse than anything for me last night, but I really enjoyed the episode overall.

Isn’t that the foreshadowing you nerds love so much?
How about all the other unnecessary cruel things she’s done?
Or the fact that people in her family have a high chance of going mad?
Or striving towards something her entire adult life, only to have 2 of her dragons die, Jorah die fighting a battle that wasn’t hers, no love from anyone, her boyfriend turn out to be her nephew and with a better claim to the throne?
Do you need to sit there and watch someone fade into lunacy minute by minute, or can you accept the fact that with all that has happened to her, this was the likely outcome

I said this near the start of this season, but the show didn’t build up Jaime killing Cersei at all. The books have. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t kill her in the books and disappointed if he goes down with her. I don’t think that Jaime talking with Jon in the second episode was a throwaway line, and Jaime’s true destiny lies with Jon.

I love the show, and don’t mind a certain amount of deviation, but don’t do this. People are allowed to be disappointed.

Dany last night reminded me of my 18 year old self playing Grand Theft Auto 3 and getting tired of doing missions

Apparently however was necessary to cram the season into six episodes.
