I have some mixed thoughts on this episode.
I thought the first 1/2 to 3/4 of tonight's episode was slow and actually a little boring. Haven't had that feeling about this show in a very long time if ever.
The Grey Worm and the chick (Missandri?) scene felt like they wanted to explore a little commentary. Which is fine and good but it just felt a little off and forced to me.
Littlefinger and Sansa and to a lesser extent Queen of Thorns and Margery were also kind of blah. It almost felt like they didn't trust people to draw the right conclusions about who was involved in killing Joffrey so they felt they had to go ahead and spell it out through exposition.
Cersi's BS is so stale that I'm not sure how much satisfaction I'm going to get from her imprisonment and penance walk. She became kinda pitiful in record time.
Jamie and Briene and Pod and Bronn I thought was good. Seems like Jamie jumped right back on his redemption track after last week. And Bronn definitely didn't seem like someone who was Tywin's man the whole time as some of us were speculating they would do in the show. I did think they were in danger of overdoing the Jamie/Brienne parting scene when she was leaving. But I think they avoided going totally overboard with it.
Dang, that's long enough for one post I think. I'll save the last part of the show for a subsequent post.

[quote][–]dmahr 121 points 55 minutes ago* HBO has confirmed this is the Night's King (Imgur link): A White Walker claims the baby and rides to a city of ice. The child is presented at an altar, where the Night's King greets the infant and lays a finger on its cheek. The baby's eyes turn White Walker blue. From the Viewer's Guide for the episode. can someone make a Tyrion and Jaime Super Kingslayer Brothers meme, with Tyrion as Mario (or Toad) and Jaime as Luigi

Television lacks so much that is expressed through prose that they kind of needed to. Plus Hodors like more immediate confirmation.

Did you read the speculation they had about who might've done it?
That's all I'm going to say on that matter.

Just wanted to chime in on the adaptation changes. I'm disappointed at the outrage over it. People comparing it to Walking Dead adaptation changes are just delusional. For one, the show writers are going to do a lot of mixing up for books 4/5 to keep things up to par with the rest of the series, and I am now completely competent they will do that. For another, certain scenes/stories have to be adjusted when adapted to a different medium.
Take the Harry Potter movies for example. First 2 movies were basically straight scene-for-scene live action movies of the books, and they were boring as shite. Prisoner of Azkaban was probably my favorite movie of the whole series, because they changed it up and the director actually had some artistic vision for his adaptation.
I loved tonight's episode, and the 4th season is straight killing it right now. This stuff with the Crater mutineers is brilliant, and the lead guy (forget his name, I know Rast but not his) was so perfectly creepy and demented thst I'm loving this deviation. We are getting a payoff that I don't think we ever got in the books as far as Mormounts murder.
Enjoy the adaptation and don't get so hung up because you don't own the story like you thought anymore. I'm beginning to prefer the tv show over the books even, which is saying a lot knowing how great the books are.

I'm thinking Jon will do it himself.

Damn. So the Night King was revealed? That's badass!

So bran and Jon can't see each other right?
Does that mean cold hands is going to bust up the rape party and save bran?

Why can't they show Coldhands killing the mutineers like he does in the books?
Posted on 4/27/14 at 10:54 pm to Dire Wolf
Anything is possible now.
I also think Coldhands pops up to save Bran at the end of this little deviation in the story line.

Also keep in mind there were 13 walkers in this scene. The night's king was the 13th lord commander, and reigned for 13 years.

True, true.
As for the last part of the show:
- The White Walker handing Craster's baby pretty gently and then "turning" it: I dont' have a problem with this at all. I think that was always a pretty legitimate possibility. And may hint that the White Walkers are something more than just generic "monsters". Which is something I was also kind of hoping for. The only surprising thing is that they sprung it here in the show before the book dealt with it But I don't really have a problem with that either.
- The whole mutineers sub plot: I'm not sure how I feel about this. Did the show people want a chance to show some more rapes to follow up on last week? (for a second I was afraid they would go there with Meera) And to show some tormenting of Hodor. The leader guy was so over the top and introduced so fast it almost seemed like they were trying to fill their bad guy quota with Joffrey dead, Tywin's days being numbered and Cersi about to take a nosedive in her fortunes. I did wonder if the fact that he was from "tin alley" had anything to do with his looney-ness. I'm thinking that the tin working process may have some deleterious effects on mental health.

I wonder what that says for the wights. Do they have any memory of their former lives?

Regardless of the changes, it just wasn't a good one period. Probably the weakest of the entire series.

Wow. I feel like, even as a Maester, I have no real idea what's going on in the show anymore. It's completely diverging from the books.
I enjoyed the episode but I really have mixed feelings what HBO is doing... I mean I began reading the books during season one after watching the first few episodes because I couldn't wait a week to know what happens next.
Well frick me now HBO!!!
