I was mostly just joking (yes, over exaggerating)

I'd like the nominate Icy Darth Maw to the naming of the head White Walker guy.

Eh, as long as the end game is the same I'm fine with it. Actually I was pleasantly surprised to see the White Walker stuff tonight and don't mind the deviations. The writers have done a great job in what they've deviated from in the books and honestly, going a different direction to get to the end game might give GRRM some more time to finish his fricking books.

Wow. I feel like, even as a Maester, I have no real idea what's going on in the show anymore. It's completely diverging from the books.

Calm down man. This was really the first thing all season that wasn't in the books

It will all be okay. A few surprises are good and can keep things fresh.

For instance, the Great Other (who that's what I'll be calling him until other evidence comes along), seemed to have on really regal attire, which seems to indicate that the Others actually have some form of society and hierarchy, and aren't necessarily just "kill everything" type of society.

Possible the "Great Other" is the Night's King?

This episode marks what should be a treaty of peace between the Hodors and the Maesters.
Other than major plot points, which past a FEW integral points (finding out if someone shits gold, mountains torn asunder, bewitchments and betrayal) we really don't know how it will unfold.

Janos Slynt needs to make me hate him more in the show or Jon better cut Thorne's fricking head off

+1

Going straight from the books is fun, but we all know what's going to happen, it just comes down to how they present it.

Now, they are saying "Look, we can show our own creativeness while still going along with the story," and I like it. Keeps things new and interesting instead of "Oh, I already know what's going to happen in this episode"

How would this be for the end of WoW: Epilogue with a Stannis POV. Stannis' army is defeated by the Others, but Stannis is taken alive by them. The Others I think may be more linked with magic than any other race (aside from maybe dragons), and they too see the value of King's Blood and they need it. So they put Stannis on an ice altar and Darth Maul does the same to him. An added bonus is Stannis has a lot of knowledge about Westerosi geography, politics, war tactics, and personally knows some of the people he'll be fighting against. Stannis I think will be the next Night's King.

How are dragons magic?

And it's "Altar" in that context

Dragons have a very, very direct relationship to magic. When the last dragon died, magic became much less powerful, but when Dany's dragons hatched, magic largely returned to the world. Melisandre became much more powerful, wildfyre became more powerful, etc.

Honestly, I'm thinking it's making me enjoy the show more due to the fact that I'm not just watching a dramatization of a series I enjoy, I'm on the edge of my seat at this point. I don't know what's going on because everything is diverging at this point.
