At this post in the series, the different threads only serve two real purposes:

1: To allow readers to maintain a sense of superiority to non-readers

Actually there are a couple of storylines that will be going on this season that have happened in the book, like the Kingsmoot. So there was always a need for the Readers' thread, despite the claim that everyone was now Hodors.

I've read the first 4 books since the end of season 4 and yeah, there's a bunch of stuff in there that is either left out or altered. For the purposes of the show however, literally everything you need to know to be on a similar level to readers is in the show itself or the History and Lore segments.

I lol at the book readers saying anyone who knows about the ToJ MUST have read the books, despite that being explained thoroughly in the H&L.

History and Lore segments.

Pretty sure the Hodors claim the H&L are off limits in the Hodor thread.

They are show only, and don't know how to order the DVDs with the H&L on them.

shite, they're all on Youtube now. Even the most recent one was up days after the blu ray release.

This is kind of my point though, non-readers have lost the right to bitch about spoilers. Hell six seasons in if you havent at least watched the H&L segments and know nothing about the backstory I dont know how youd follow at all.

I was accused on the non-reader thread during season 4 of being a book reader because I was more perceptive than some. Its fricking laughable how upset people get when their comprehension skills are called into question.

The Kingsmoot is the only plot left I think. That plus the river lands to an extent

It isn't uncommon.
Five characters have brought others back from the dead prior to Melisandre and Jon interaction. Three have been shown in the show happening.

Tryos, Bedric, Qyburn, Night's King, Damp-hair.

Looks like I'm gonna have to read the Hodor thread at some point to see what I missed last night.

JON is the main character. Ned was not.

The frick? Jon is literally the song of ice and fire. It was his destiny to die and be reborn.

It's not nearly as entertaining as I thought it would be. There are a few moments though.

So what's the deal with Hodor? He's been around and has information about everything, but was cursed by some witch to not be able to say anything but his name?

Seems like the Bran vision will eventually reveal a way to reverse whatever's holding Hodor back. Or was that just a tease and he just got brain damaged saving young Ned or something?

all the Dorne stuff
Bolton getting shived
Sansa/Theon/Brienne/Pod
Jon waking up
Tyrion releasing other dragons

pretty much only thing that book readers know about is the Iron Islands stuff

I agree. The major threads have progressed - somewhat - past the books in most areas. KL is still - roughly - even, except the Myrcella stuff, but I consider that a continuation of the aborted Dorne story.

Dorne - let's face it - it's just a vastly different story. It's apples to plutonium at this point.

Mereen/Dany - book readers know about some of the palace intrigue that may be coming in Slaver's Bay, but since Dany has already left, it will be a different story with a very different vibe. The massive contraction of the Essos storylines is stark.

But, the show is ahead of the books at The Wall and at Winterfell.

The Iron Islands are really the only story that progressed in the novels that the show is not roughly even with or past - at this point - since Kingsmoot was specifically mentioned in the show - and we get more than a shady story of how Balon died with the appearance of Euron, looks like we're going to get that story this season.

Unless we count the revised brotherhood, LSH, and things like that - and in my opinion, just as Dorne and Mereen, we're pursuing a different storyline in those areas, anyway.

I see some people though Jon should have been resurrected in the flames, and I agree. Having Melisandre fail, and Jon's body set to a Pyre would have been a better episode ending. (more melting) have next episode start with a TOJ R+L=J beginning, confirm the theory and then see Jon naked waking up in the ashes like Daenaerys did at the end of season two.

He would have then met the criteria to be a god in like half the show's religions. I think as it is the wildlings will see him as one. Azhor Ahai isn't really mentioned much by Melisandre, but many people think Jon could be him.
