If you notice, the Queen starts yelling at Jof, and Varys runs up to him asking wtf.
ETA: varys has me more confused than any other character in the books.

Just rewatched the episode and the guy at the end Ned was yelling Baelor, isn't that the Grayjoy lord? This was when he was walking to the platform

Baelor was one of the old targaryen kings. He built the sept in kings landing if im not mistaken. The greyjoys/iron men worship the drowned god. Not sure if I've ever heard an actual name for him

I was talking about the guy Ned passed by and the person who held on to Arya during the execution. He was saying Baelor while passing this guy.

I hope that the non book readers watching this show are not analyzing each post in this thread, because there is definitely a thinly veiled spoiler for next episode submitted post tonight's episode

It's not bad, just not up to par for the rest of the series. It's basically half a book, and is missing the most interesting characters (all the best POV chars will be in the next book). AFFC is still a decent book, but it came after the best book in the series (and personally ASOS is one of my favorite books ever), so it pales by comparison. What made matters worse is for those of us reading the books as they came out is we had to wait almost three years for AFFC to come out, and then it was a major letdown compared to the third book. I was very meh on AFFC the first time I read it, but I enjoyed it much more on rereading it.

I was a little surprised at Ned losing his head at the end last night. He was sort of a central figure to the show so I didn't anticipate him being killed off.
Thus far it has been very, very good. Can't wait for Sunday to get here to watch the next one!

Varys said it himself at the beginning of episode 9: he is loyal to the realm. He knew, just like Cersei knew, that the execution of Ned Stark would bring civil war to the land of Westeros.
Don't you remember Varys pleading to Ned to admit his treason so there could be peace in the land? Had Joffrey allowed Ned to live there would have been peace. But now that Ned has been killed, the lands in the North will ally themselves with Robb Stark and there will be civil war.

Watching the episode now. I like how the opening credits evolve to include new areas on the map. I saw The Twins in the credits just now. I am just amazed at the level of detail this show has fought to include.

If there is one thing you should have learned from littlefinger is that you cannot trust anyone at their word. (not a spoiler of any sort, it's just that especially with someone like varys you cannot base your assumptions on "said himself"... the constant scheming and deceit by everyone is what makes the books great) Trying to guess his loyalties, schemes, and motivations before they are revealed was always entertaining to me in the books.

I did not read the last few pages due to I missed last nights episodes. I just found out this past week about the show and caught up with my HBO on demand. I enjoy the show very much. Got some hot ladies in it also so that's always a plus, but there is a good story line and good acting. Not sure about the walkers coming but all in all very entertaining.

I'm only on about page 500 in the book, I wish I could finish before next week, but I doubt I will be able to. I can't wait to read the 2nd book though.
I knew what was coming last night (because I accidentally read a spoiler on a website), so I was somewhat prepared, but my wife just stared at me and said "WTF? That was not supposed to happen!"

i thought it was a little weird that they left out the end of Tyrion's story about his wife....in the book after watching his wife, the woman he loved, whore herself willingly to about 60 or so of Lannister's men; Tywin made Tyrion go last and pay her with a gold piece because "lannister men are worth more". I mean that was the icing on the cake to a super fricked up father/son moment; not really pivotal to the overall story but just strange they decided to leave out that detail.
also after tyrin finished the story and Bronn said he'd kill a man that did that to him, tyrion said that Bronn may get his chance b/c a lannister always pays his debts.
