I'm not discouting the match today. I've been pretty transparent all WC in how I view the officiating and failure of VAR. Far too many missed calls all tournament. VAR is there as a failsafe to fix incorrect decisions, or missed plays from the Official. We've seen obvious handballs missed by Officials, which somehow get passed through the VAR check and given the green light. None of it makes sense.

He stomped on the foot and pulled the shirt to get the ball for the counter. Die on that hill if you want

And yet Argentina's goal was allowed to stand when MacAllister clearly had a foul in the build up, where only 2 passes happened after. Not 100 yards and 10 passes.

Make it make sense

Wonder if this means we will move kepa on.

Kepa put out a statment where he wanted to move on from Arsenal, to see first team football.
2 guys there and they allow Trossard to cross. Put in a Tackle!!!
Playing slow, overly cautious
Beaten to every 50-50
Wayward passes when under no pressure

These guys are so off it right now
How wrong did Ancelotti get it today? To concede possession against Norway and gladly sit back all match, until the 70th minute where they finally decided to go for it.

I have a feeling England is going to crush Mexico.

If Mexico kept up that first half pace I'd be feeling much different about the matchup with England. The atmosphere will give them a chance, but England would have to play poorly still.
I'll be interested in seeing the larger sample size. He's been playing wing almost exclusively until Deschamps made him a 10.
I was wrong on the first match, thought it would be higher scoring 3-2 Norway. This one is going pretty much how I thought. But I had 4 goals in it, needs to pick up a bit

This absolutely not, it isn't any different from marking anyone else not a keeper out there. You can stand wherever you want, make a run wherever you want, etc

then hugging them during flight has got to stop

This part absolutely. Shouldn't be allowed to wrap arms around anyone, tug their shirts, etc

Watching the play I neveer thought the German player committed a foul on the keeper, rather he was standing and facing him, and the keeper made the move towards him. Then fell and embellished the contact. After reading the replies in this thread I can see why VAR and the ref made the call they did if that play was interpreted by them the way many in here also interpreted it.

And hearing from Clattenberg yesterday about how Fifa pre tournament decided that any movement from a player towards a keeper is an automatic foul, it seems they used that verbage to determine the outcome.
First two high scoring, final match lots of yellows, and maybe a red.
Some real tired legs out there by minute 120+ as well. Not to mention the immense pressure of taking a pen in the World Cup!

The Dutch have gone to at least extra time (some went to PKs like tonight) now 8 times in the World Cup

Thats what I'm saying. They dont lose in regulation. Haven't lost a group stage match in a long time either. Just a terrible set of circumstances for them. They always make it to final whistle pretty much, and just never get past.
The Dutch have an insane WC record going. They don't lose matches, only been knocked out in heartbreaking fashion from penalties.
This is going to sting so much for one of these Countires. This has the feel of a final. Both extremely good and plenty capable of a quarterfinal or further.
They switched off for a moment. The Japanese player stole the ball, they didn't expect him to then lose it without a fight immediately after.
Initially I found upper deck tickets for that match at $300

Then both countries got a draw from an previous match and the tickets went up to $700 and then I didn't look again. Upper deck for those two countires even for $300 wasn't appealing to me.

New Zealand played the last 30+ minutes completely out of control and in a full on press.

Thats what Im telling myself, in part to settle nerves/convince myself

That it was just New Zealand after all, a not great defense.
Theres a difference between dribbling defenders and actually getting on the scoresheet.

Prior to tonight all they had was own goal, and the entire attack was blanked. But now 2 of their 3 biggest goal scoring threats got one, and their first attacking sub got one as well.
