Watching the episode now. I like how the opening credits evolve to include new areas on the map. I saw The Twins in the credits just now. I am just amazed at the level of detail this show has fought to include.
A little opening credits detail I hadn't noticed before this week... if you look at the bullet points next to the cast members' names... you can see the sigil of the house their character belongs to. Like there's a a wolf head for Sean Bean, a Lion head for Peter Dinklage, all the way down to the Kraken for the guy who plays Theon.
And if you look closely at the rings around the sun, the carvings in the rings depict the struggle of the houses, with the crowned stag triumphant at the end, representing House Baratheon.

I believe the posts in this thread need to be strictly related to the TV show. I feel there has already been too much revealed in this thread by those who have already read the books. Even by discussing favorite characters in the books or character info about Books 2,3,4, information is given away about the the TV show. Mainly because we know at any moment a main character can be killed.
Another thread should be created for those who have read the books and are watching the show if they want to discuss.

There is a book reader thread.
And I agree that discussing favorite characters relating to parts not yet on TV should be considered a spoiler.

I did notice the "new" part to the opening with the City with the huge bridge.
2 Questions.
1. did the guy who handed Jon Snow the new fancy sword say that the knight helping the dothraki is his son?
2. not really a question... frick Jeoffry ... seriously.. I hate that kid.

If there is one thing you should have learned from littlefinger is that you cannot trust anyone at their word.
I personally believe Varys was telling the truth to Ned in the dungeons at the beginning of the episode. You could tell from the sound of his voice. He was pretty much begging Ned to forget his honor and lie to the people by admitting his treason. Varys definitely has his motives for wanting peace, but he does want peace.

You beat me to it.
I'm sure it's not intentional spoilers, but I pretty much knew what was going to happen last night because I never saw anyone say "Ned Stark" is my favorite character in Book 3" and he was such a central figure in Season 1. There were also a cpl of other comments that gave it away.
A few pages back someone said, and I'm not picking on this person just using it as an example, "Jaime Lannister is my current favorite and I'm on book 4", so with Jaime Lannister being held captive right now, we can deduce that he's not going to be killed by the Starks anytime soon.
No big deal to me, as I sometimes read spoilers intentionally because with my shitty memory I will forget them.

I agree. Saying someone is your favorite character throughout the books tells non readers that person remains alive.

I am really starting to like Robb.
Also, Drogo's wound didn't look that bad when it happened. Is it just bad luck with it getting infected?

Yeah, people who have read the books should not answer questions/male comments about anything. Someone posted something a few pages back that could count as a spoiler.

Something just occurred to me. In the 1st episode, Ned cut the head off someone that didn't deserve it because the law is the law and that means the deserter's head must roll.
And here we have the same thing happen to Ned himself.
Well played storytelling.

I disagree. The wall is usually an alternative to capital punishment, think of it as a suspended sentence.

*****vague reference to next week's spoiler. Don't read if you haven't read the book*****
Maybe not, but it'll be pretty shocking. I really thought Ned's death was done well. I felt so bad for Sansa and Arya when it happened. I think my allergies were starting to act up a little. I can't rememeber if this was in yesterday's episode or the previews for next week's, but the blood dripping from Ned's sword just drives the point home to me.

I'm betting it won't be as big a shock to ppl as it was in the books given how heavy handed they were ab foreshadowing it in the show early on. I'm just hoping they can pull it off as well as they did Ned's death

i thought it was a little weird that they left out the end of Tyrion's story about his wife....in the book after watching his wife, the woman he loved, whore herself willingly to about 60 or so of Lannister's men; Tywin made Tyrion go last and pay her with a gold piece because "lannister men are worth more". I mean that was the icing on the cake to a super fricked up father/son moment; not really pivotal to the overall story but just strange they decided to leave out that detail.
I remembered the story and Tyrion having to have sex with her, but I didn't remember him paying with gold because Tywin claims Lannisters are better. Very intriguing and lets you know how Lannisters act and react.
quote:
also after tyrin finished the story and Bronn said he'd kill a man that did that to him, tyrion said that Bronn may get his chance b/c a lannister always pays his debts.
I'm not sure I understand this. Who would Bronn get to kill and why?

QUIT IT IDIOTS.
DO NOT REFERENCE THE BOOKS FOR FUTURE EPISODES.
DO NOT EVEN MENTION "VAGUE" SPOILERS.
Take it to the book readers thread.
And I've read the books for many years. Jesus.
Next year we should have ONE long thread for Book-Readers, and a thread for EACH episode for Non-Book Readers.

Nothing in my past two posts spoils anything for anyone, so GFY. It was all about stuff that already happened.
