EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has won an auction for an epic that will have Gal Gadot wearing the crown of a real wonder woman of history. Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkins will direct Gadot in Cleopatra, a period biographical drama scripted by Laeta Kalogridis. This is the first major project package won by Paramount Motion Picture Group President Emma Watts in an auction that came down to Universal, Warner Bros, Netflix and Apple, I’ve heard.
The Egyptian queen’s tale has all the makings of a big female empowerment story, told by women. She was mostly played as a seductress by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 Joseph Mankiewicz-directed Cleopatra. That film cost more than any film to date and despite winning four of the nine Oscars for which it was nominated and being a big hit at the box office, Cleopatra nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox. Despite that, Hollywood has continued its infatuation with the Queen of the Nile

Twitter is not happy about it lol

Cleopatra was a descendant of Ptolemy I, a Macedonian Greek who established himself as king of Egypt after the death of his companion Alexander the Great. However, because her mother’s identity is unknown, Cleopatra’s ethnicity remains a mystery.
Fan reaction was mostly skeptical, with many wondering whether Cleopatra should’ve been played by an actress of color.

They cast a middle eastern actress for a role of a middle eastern character and people are mad

I mean honestly, Gal Gadot isn’t far off the bar on Cleopatra’s ethnicity. You’d really have to have a person who was Greek or Macedonian descent to authentically be Cleopatra, but she’s not of Egyptian descent like most people think. She almost certainly looked very Mediterranean which Gadot does. Might as well be bitching about a Korean being cast as someone who is Chinese or Japanese. Sure not spot on, but to the untrained eye it’s near identical.

On further research it turns out Cleopatra was actually from an inbreeding line of Greeks so they nailed the casting

“Oh Ptolemy and his descendants married into the local population”
In all likelihood, no they didn’t. Ptolemy and his descendants were extremely incestuous. None of (or almost none of) them before Cleopatra spoke Egyptian. Cleopatra was the first in generations to do so, if not ever. She was greatly beloved by the Egyptians for that. Plus she was in an incestuous marriage (never consummated) with her own brother. It’s way more likely she looked more like Gal Gadot and less like anyone you’d see in Egypt these days.

Just ignore these dipshit and their moronic opinions will be rendered irrelevant. Twitter is a scourge on the world and legitemetly one of the most detrimental societal inventions of all time.
Fuk them. Gal is hot. Gal is a movie star. She appeals to men and women. She's awesome. Piss on their ever loving outrage Graves.

Meanwhile they fall all over themselves with orgasmic joy when a character that's traditionally been white is cast as another race.

Also the Egyptians in the Middle Ages were largely purged by the Caliphates. I think people would be very surprised how Egyptians looked 2000 years ago even if they did have brown skin tones.

How long before she backs out, due to deference to her Nubian queen sisters?
This was supposed to be a great follow up from the massive $$ made from WW 1984...
Tough breaks.

Claudette Colbert’s pre-code Cleopatra was pretty saucy.
