But the Nubians (blacks) crossed over the border anyway and made themselves Pharaohs for a time period.
The area from which the Nubians hailed was in southern Egypt/northern Sudan.
The general belief is that they actually were in that region prior to the Egyptian expansion.
The Egyptians conquered and subsequently destroyed their civilization.
At least that is the belief.

Meanwhile Fred Haise is black in a new production despite the fact that the real Fred Haise is white and still alive.

No, the kushites were not destroyed by Egyptians.
after Assyrians pushed them out of Egypt for aiding the Hebrews in protecting Jerusalem from Assyria, the Kushites would return to rule their Kingdom of Kush, being only a regional power until its capital was sacked by the Ethiopian Aksumite empire in the A.D. 300s.

YES...people should boycott unless she is replaced by a Greek actress. Also, they should shoot the entire movie in Greek and Middle Egyptian (which could be hard, since they stopped speaking it during the Roman Period) with subtitles. Anything less is cultural appropriation.
So, congratulations to Olympia Dukakis...your new Cleopatra. Better start shooting soon, she just turned 89 and isn't getting any younger.

I remember even less, so I won’t pretend to argue intelligently on the historical genealogy of Ancient Greece and Egypt. But Goddamnit Egypt literally borders Israel. And you could skip a stone across the Mediterranean from either and hit a Grecian island.
But more importantly, so much more importantly, Gal Gadot is one of the most beautiful and sexiest women to have ever graced this unworthy world. I don’t know or care what she’s running for, but by God she’s got my vote.

But just to be clear Im not one that thinks Cleopatra was black. I mean she may have couldve been mixed at the most but I understand the whole Ptolemaic Macedonian ancestry so Gal is an ok choice. Some other roles should be greek looking in the film.
I am one to say however that there shouldnt be any Scots/Australians looking etc in the majority of the roles like they have done to Egypt movies in the past.
A mix of different shades, gal gadot to brown to black

Cleopatra was a descendant of Ptolemy I, a Macedonian Greek

Cleopatra’s ethnicity remains a mystery
Here is a Roman sculpture of her, done FOR her, while she was visiting Rome.
Every stereotype of a Macedonian is visible
But yeah. . .sure she was black because. . .Justice?

She looks like a slightly feminine Alexander the Great to me.

Also, the idea of Alexander the Great as a Queen is contentious, at best.
He was either straight, or Bi. Dude had a Harem, children by mistresses, and was in love with his wife Roxana.

Alexander was like most Greek men of the time he screwed everything including men. He loved Roxana and Hephaestion (Dude), and named cities after them both. Greeks didn't get too hung up on gay, straight, bi...they did whatever gave them pleasure or an edge in battle (Sacred band of Thebes).
And Cleopatra was an inbred Greek woman who probably had olive skin. She was not all that attractive by most accounts, but very intelligent, shrewd, and very powerful which Ceaser and Anthony found attractive more than what we consider beauty today.

That is once again thought to be Cleopatra.
But no one knows. It's a fun exercise; this is shown in only one museum...just like many museums in Europe supposedly have a splinter of the true cross. Nobody really knows. All we know is this is where she would've come from...
quote:
As a member of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, Cleopatra was directly descended from Ptolemaios I Soter, one of Alexander the Great’s generals and a member of the Diadochoi, the group of generals who divided up Alexander’s empire amongst themselves. The Ptolemies were heavily inbred and it was customary for brothers and sisters in the royal family to marry each other.
The Ptolemies rarely ever married outsiders and, when they did, they usually only married members of other Greek royal families. In fact, Cleopatra’s only known non-Greek ancestor was her very distant ancestor Apama, who was the Sogdian wife of the Greek king Seleukos I Nikator, who was also one of the Diadochoi.
Consequently, Cleopatra’s family tree looks more like a ladder than a “tree.” Cleopatra’s father was Ptolemaios XII Auletes. Her mother was most likely Kleopatra V Tryphaina, who was her father’s main wife, as well as his sister or cousin. Cleopatra herself married two of her own brothers in succession: Ptolemaios XIII Theos Philopator and Ptolemaios XIV.
In addition to being ethnically Greek, the Ptolemies were also culturally Greek. Greek was the only language that most of the Ptolemies ever learned to speak and, while they portrayed themselves as pharaohs to their Egyptian subjects, they thought of themselves—and portrayed themselves to the world—as thoroughly Greek monarchs. In fact, Cleopatra herself was the only member of her family who ever even learned to speak the Egyptian language at all. She almost certainly would have thought of herself primarily as a Greek queen.
Apparently her person captivated...although she was described as beautiful.
Most scholars agree she had a large thin nose and thin lips.
She had a sharp chin.
I see no problem with this casting.

Gal Gadot looks very close to what Cleopatra VII looked like in real life.
Gal is likely much taller by 5 inchs or more, Gal is 5'10"
Here is a picture of Cleopatra:

This a close likeness of Cleopatra VII, here is a bust of her from near the time of Mark Anthony:
