Is it just me, or is Donald Glover PERFECTLY cast?

River Phoenix was a great Indy. And you can't say he was an impressionist.

Yeah...but I'm not sure that really fits the bill. Phoenix was playing him as a kid...like still in Boy Scouts kind of kid.

This guy looks to be playing him at what...22 or older? The actor was born in 1989 (so frick him first of all!) but that makes him 29 when the movie hits. How far before SW is this even supposed to be?

Ford was 35 in the first movie.

What they are doing here is recasting the Han Solo we've already seen in A New Hope...which is just impossible to do. Now...if they wanted to recast him as a 15 year old and have that be for about 10 minutes of action...I'm sure they could fine some kid to pull that off.

I think he'd have put Johnny Depp, Leo and several others out of business

I've always thought he would have been one of the best of that generation of young actors.

Yep, for the time being I'm done seeing Star Wars movies at the theater. That's a sentence I never thought I'd type.

Emilia Clarke is so fine

I'm not ashamed to admit that I watched "Me Before You" in its entirety because of her....and not because of her acting skills (which suck).

LOL...it was a smart arse response to your question. I don't personally think he is but he'll probably pull it off because of his ability. He's the least of my concerns with this movie.

Actor as Han sounds bad but everything else looks fine to me.
Yeah, after seeing the full trailer, I was put off a little. Dude doesn't sound like Ford, who "IS" Solo to me.

The guy that played young Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline, literally creeped me out how much he looked, moved, and talked like Ford

Here are his scenes

I saw that scene, and it has made me so pissed about this.

A film about Han Solo doesn't have to be an incredible Oscar-winning acting performance, it should be fun, full of action, the character should be kind of amoral and an anti-hero, and for god's sake he should remind you of Harrison Ford.

They had the perfect opportunity...

CGI Peter Cushing was comically bad.
Real people have little movements, eye twitches, etc. The CGI of both Tarkin and Leia were noticeably "fake" in some manner, at an instinctive level.

Anthony Ingruber. He would have been perfect, if not for the fact that he is an impressionist, not an actor.

I mean, he made me believe he was a young Harrison ford in age of Adeline.....

Why couldnt he do an impression of a young han solo in Solo
This. Overall acting ability is overrated in certain types of films.
This is a one-off showing an established character, at a different period of his life. I don't need development, I know who Han Solo is.

What I need/want are things that remind me of Harrison Ford (ie, Han Solo). If my mind accepts what is onscreen to be Ford, then it will fill in whatever is missing.

Let's say you have a buddy you've known decades, haven't seen him in a couple of years (moved away or something). You meet up again, he looks a little different, you get a beer etc. You don't need to relearn who your bud/cousin etc is, because you already know him.

The Ingruber dude has some facial features that remind me of Ford, and he nailed the voice and small mannerisms. The guy they cast just doesn't evoke that.

That makes no difference, and anyway, you said no one could play him. Phoenix was more than capable of carrying a Young Indy movie.

And to all of the "impressionist" people, are you saying that if an actor was playing JFK, he should just do it their own way? Fact or fiction, if you're playing an established, well-known person, you're going to have to look and sound somewhat like them.

While I'm not super excited for this, given the production's history, I'll still go see it. I try not to over-analyze trailers. I would actually prefer they just release this one so that it leaves key plot points to our imagination. But, like most films, they will probably release a longer trailer around late March that gives away too much.

Why? What makes it that bad? Again, I’m not a Star Wars guy so it doesn’t offend my sensibiiities. Outside of the purple haired chick, who was just some purple haired chick, I don’t see why it sucks so bad. It wasn’t great, but it was okay. It was better than those 3 movies after the 3 original flicks.
