I've never met anyone who thought that this is a true story.

The answer to the AIDS question really is that the transmittal rate to men and child is not 100%. It's a risk, but it definitely doesn't always happen. This is true for all STD's. Men are always less likely to contract the diseases than women. Think about why that might be.

The answer to the first question is that really could be an issue. Maybe Jenny really is just taking advantage of Forrest. That's the cynical view of things. Or you could look at it like at first Jenny didn't think that Forrest was capable of adult love and a real relationship. There's a scene right before they get it on that suggests this. Then she didn't think that she was worthy of Forrest. Then when she decided that she was going to die, she figured out that life was too short, and she, along with their son, belonged together with Forrest.

View it how you like.

Agreed.

The real "tear jerking" part when Jenny tells Forrest that the kid is his at the end has always really bothered me.

She knows shes sick, she wants to leave the kid with a good life, so why not lie to Forrest (a very mentally challenged multi millionare), so that her kid is set for life and no one will ever know and Forrest would never question her.

No way that kid is really his.

I have always felt this way as well.

Then you should also have a problem with the part of him being in the military...or the ability to sign that contract saying that he loved playing with his flexolite ping pong paddle.

fricking this. No way it's his kid (or that she would know it was even if it was his).

Also, I always figured she got the HIV after Little Forest was born.

No.1.. You've got multiple questions in there but lets focus on his well being.. He wasn't retarded and was able to take care of himself just fine.. Was he prime for manipulation, of course but he stated that "we don't have to worry about money no more, that's good". It's easy to infer that Lt Dan was a custodian of his finances, ensuring that he had whatever he wanted but simply wasn't going to blow all his cheddar. Allowing Forrest to be Forrest and a philanthropist without worry.

Further evidence is he was able to field strip his rifle in basic training in record time. Someone that was full on retarded wouldn't be able to do that.

And got him invested in some fruit company. Lt. Dan even told Forrest that they didn't have to worry about money no more. Forrest thought "Well, that's good. One less thing."

Lt. Dan was a great American. I mean he was all-American in every sense. his service, courageously overcoming his struggles after his brutal injuries (the hurricane scene), then acting as Forrest's financial steward, ensuring his well-being. That's a standard to live up to.

I believe Forrest wasn't a retard, but slightly autistic. This explains his awkwardness along with his seemingly amazing abilities, such as this, all in one.

Stop watching movies with women.

quote:

Where are Forrest's care takers, where are the good people of Greenbow that make sure this quasi-functioning mentally disabled person is not being taken for all he is worth?

What caretakers? The people of Greenbo were minding their own damn business like people today should. And what exactly was she taking from him? Nothing. She lived with him and while he wasn't exactly in the poor house, Forrest wasn't out acting like a playboy.

quote:

so why don't they question Jenny's motives.

Minding their own damn business.

quote:

Where is Lt. Dan?

Living his own life.

quote:

Wasn't he supposed to be watching out for Forrest's money?

He invested him in Apple. He did his part. Not to mention the riches from Bubba Gump Inc.

quote:

In my view, Jenny comes back seduces Forrest and lives off of his assets for a good while and then just leave town.

Because she was hitting up the Greenbo Macy's every day dropping c notes like I drop hot farts.

quote:

Someone please explain to me how Forrest and Forrest f*cking Jr. don't have AIDS?

Do you know how hard it is for AIDS to be passed via intercourse? Not only would Jenny have had to had open, bleeding wound, Forrest also would have had to have an open, bleeding wound as well.

quote:

Forrest and Forrest Jr. would most definitely have it

Nope. Shows your ignorance though.

quote:

are we now to assume that Forrest and Jenny didn't consummate their marriage?

Already covered this, but I find it hilarious how naive you are.

Like someone else said, HIV is not really communicable in standard sex, especially not in the early stages.

The odds are like 1 in 10000 of him getting it during your "rape" scene.

And the chance of passing it to her kid is almost exclusively via breastfeeding, not birth.

His Momma made sure he wasn't put in the special classes. Assuming he made the grades to graduate while taking those classes, then who would know he was special, aside from the obvious speech patterns? He followed orders to the T in the Army.

FWIW, I think Bubba was a little slow as well.

Calm down before you start throwing out the "naive"'remarks a little too frivolously. Since everyone on this thread is so convinced that the odds of AIDS contraction is so low, I assume that we could start some kind of raw dog convention here.

womenshealth.gov puts the risk of transmission at 25% for untreated mother's who deliver children. You cannot assume the safety protocols that are currently in place now were active 35 years ago. That blows that stat out of the water.

M/TV Board Sex Ed is mighty questionable....

Hold on. You cannot call America's hero on the football field, on the highways and in Nam a retard. I won't stand for that.
