Daniel Craig in Knives Out was so bad that it was distracting from an otherwise fantastic movie.

He was basically foghorn leghorn but I think that was by design.

Hy f-ing hell I had no idea he was English. It's astounding, he's got like a true blue American gruff accent with a hint of Chicago.

To be fair though, I would assume he naturally and totally lost his British accent because he moved to America in 1958 at 18 and lived here for another 60 yrs. He's just like Anthony LaPaglia, who admitted to totally losing his Aussie accent in America...or Mel Gibson who did the same.

Mel until Lerhal Weapon had a thick Aussie accent. You can actually still hear hints of omit in lethal weapon. By the early 1990s it was totally gone and didn't even come out when he was yelling on those old tapes. That's how you know you've totally lost your old accent.

It’s crazy right!

What’s funny to me is that he plays a decorated American Soldier in two different shows

On the one hand it’s astounding they couldn’t find an American to play Dick Winters, on the other hand he owns that role and I can’t imagine anyone else in it (except for the real guy i guess )

I have yet to see an Aussie actor that can't nail multiple American accents. Its impressive considering Americans find it damn near impossible to do a realistic Australian accent.

They definitely punch well above their weight class when it comes to turning out good actors.

Agreed - I think it was meant to be over the top.

That said, he based it on this man, Shelby Foote:

Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney.
Terminator Genisys.
May or may not have been a driver in a scene in a paddy wagon. They shot the scene over and over for about 21/2 hours. Between takes they seamlessly switched from native Aussie/Kiwi accents to American English. They even joked about it. Between sets saying “ok we are bout to speak American” with a twang. Didn’t engage or talk to them but they seemed pretty down to earth. The director Alan Taylor came and chatted with me. He was cool. he directed a season of game of thrones.

It was obviously an intentional accent.
