Raiders of the Lost Ark in the glorious theater that was the Westwood. The original IMAX screen
Superman II at the old NONA.
Empire Strikes Back like ten times at the Dollar Cinema.
All in the same summer.
Kids these days have no clue how magical going to the movies can be.

That's because parents no longer give them money and drop them off or shove them out the door
The parents have to be there, so the kids don't get to the theaters as much.

Whatever it was, it was probably at the Meyerland theater in Nineteen Eightysomething.

Agreed for sure, but my dad actually did take my brother and me to those. That was kind of part of the magic, especially for those movies.
My point was more about the quality of movies you could see in the theater in one summer.
Just doesn’t seem the same to me nowadays. Quality films that kids and their parents can absolutely love.
But yeah we got thrown out of the car and pushed into the theater nonstop

My parents used to go to a drive in, and I don't remember the names of the movies, just random images. One I think was Coal Miner's Daughter. Another I remember because it had butt cheeks in it (
), and another that scared me because there was a scene with a lot of coffins.
The first movies I know I remember seeing was the Empire Strikes Back, ET, and Disney's Robin Hood.

Disney's Treasure Island at the Broadmoor back in the early 70's Probably 73/74. It was then that I fell in love with movies. I've held movies in reverence ever since.
It drives my wife crazy, but when a movie is on, I'm not fricking talking to you, I'm watching the movie. It's different from a TV show. Sit down, shut up, and watch, just like if you were in the theater.
My favorite "day at the movies" is probably the weekend of June 25, 1982. That Saturday my friend and I snuck in to not one but TWO rated R movies at Cinema 11 Bon Marche Mall.
We saw Blade Runner and John Carpenter's The Thing. Both were very different from the other sci fi movies out at the time, and we weren't sure if we loved them, but we definitely knew we had watched something special.
Now they are both cult classics.
It was a good day.

I distinctly remember seeing Batman, Ghostbusters 2, and The Little Mermaid when I was 4 years old lol.
My dad was a teacher so he took me to both Batman and GB2 that summer. Batman, because it was Batman, and GB2 because I loved the late 80's cartoon. I think we saw the Little Mermaid as a family that Christmas or something, but I can't remember for sure.
