quote:Well... without spoiling too much (as if anyone cares at this point in this thread), We ARE talking about:
A YouTuber pointed out that since this is a prequel and there are no black hobbits, etc. in Lord of the Rings, at some point in Middle Earth history, they must have "holocausted" all of the black hobbits, dwarves and elves.
Moria
Eregion
quite likely Harad and Rhun
Moria and Eregion DID get "holocausted". Sauron lays waste to Eregion, a few eventually make it to Rivendell (which hasn't been founded yet).
The Balrog and his swarm of goblins eventually take Moria and turn it into a tomb. That's straight canon.
The East and South, kingdoms of Men, tended to lay in the service of Morgoth, and quickly fall into Sauron's dominion. That's where the bulk of the Nazgul come from. We rarely encounter them in LOTR or even the Silmarillion, but we know they exist, as they fought at the battle of Gondor. It was a commonly known fact that by the time of that battle, Sauron owned most of Middle Earth, and only a few groups still stood against him.
Another possible source of "black dwarves"- as stated, we know Durin's Folk from LOTR and The Hobbit, which still leaves the other 6 Houses.
We know, because it's stated, that the 7 Dwarven Rings were dealt out by Sauron/Celebrimbor... 7 Rings, 7 Houses. Makes complete sense that it's one per House, which should mean we should see at least a hint of every House in this series, perhaps in a royal gathering to give the Rings out. We don't know 100% that ol' gal is LIVING in Moria, only shows her there. Moria, as it's a Dwarf Realm neighboring Eregion, would be where said Dwarves would gather for this.

Are you implying black dwarves aren’t as capable as white dwarves in defending their kingdoms?
Just fricking with you, it’s all fiction so who gives a frick.

We're also getting black elves and hobbits, tho.
But, to be clear, this won't suck because of black actors. It will suck because it will suck.

Actually, none of them seem to have done well.
Seems to be canon that the 7 Rings didn't turn the Dwarves into Wraiths, as they "are made different". But it did make them even greedier and wealthier. The Dwarves accumulated seven great Hoards of wealth, each assumed to belong to a House, and each with a Ring as the foundation. At least 4 were "consumed by dragons", meaning (I assume) those Houses fell. Sauron was able to reclaim 2. Thrain (Thorin's father) had the last, but Sauron took it from him in Dol Guldur, giving him 3.
This means:
the other 6 Houses had already fallen, either directly to Sauron, or to dragons.

So, the Dwarf Kingdoms came up short?

You're comparing talking cartoon ponies to people with dark skin?

It may shock you to learn that dwarves, elves, and talking ponies are all fictional beings.

Right, but you made my point for me. Why is a dwarf's skin color relevant in a world where dwarves exist? it just seems like a strange hangup in a high fantasy series.

Also someone want to explain to me how there are black dwarfs? Are there Asian dwarfs? Are there little enclaves of immigrant dwarfs? Does this chick have 2 black dwarf parents? Are they from a different continent? Please…go on….explain it
Maybe black skin is an uncommon trait like albinism? If we're going to use real world biology to question the presence of a black dwarf, then maybe it's some sort of mutation.
But it's fantasy. You can literally believe what you want.

Sure.
If you ignore the great lengths Tolkien went to invent this world, the people, their languages, dress, customs & history…
Yeah, like make up whatever.

It's relevant because the show makers put it in the show. They're not trying to build an authentic world that is true to what Tolkien created. They inject race where it was never present before because they want to cause controversy. The push for diversity is the main concern, instead of making a show that presents Tolkien's world accurately.

I maintain her lack of a beard is a bigger deal than her skin color.

Black dwarves and elves are as nonsensical to Tolkien's world as the cast of My Little Ponies showing up would be. You didn't understand the original point, and are now still making arguments that make it clear you didn't understand it.

So instead of signing a young Elrond, they instead went for young Ned Stark. Brilliant.
Who downvotes this? Seriously, what is your point?

Admittedly I missed the part where they said it would have black elves. I can see why that would upset people.
My only argument was about the dwarves since Tolkien apparently never described them.

Will Poulter could have been the actor to play Elrond. But negotiations fell through and now we'll never know how it may have turned out.
Besides the striking resemblance, both Hugo and Will are 6'2".
I mean, is this series supposed to be set in the same universe as the Peter Jackson films because those actors look nothing like Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett. Nevermind the fact that there's flashbacks in Fellowship where 2nd Age Elrond looks exactly like 3rd Age Elrond.
