Holy shite that's a great movie.
My 11yo never cries and he was fighting back tears a few times.
I'm ready for a rewatch. Dark room, surround sound cranked up... Damn what a ride.

Man i was rereading Jurassic Park this week and its crazy how similar the books are in the beginning.
Just great storytelling and the movies dont stray from the books.

Absolutely. Great story without over explaining things and I was constantly like "oh he's doing that because of this!!" and my son even picked up on it. Of course my wife (God bless her) was completely clueless and we kept using to explain what everything meant to her.
Love a movie that doesn't talk down to the audience.

Agreed. After my first watch I felt they didn’t explain enough of how big the stakes were. Felt they rushed it. On second watch, I realized they did plenty of it and I felt the pressure of the situation more. There wasn’t some big explanation with over reactions like Armageddon.

The concept is very simple. Respect the source material.
People like something because of how the original was made. Yet over and over again, Hollywood and entertainment in general thinks they can do something greater than what the audience has come to know and love. And almost always it’s the same bullshite which gets shoehorned in, for the modern audience.

No they didn’t, but they did minimize him into a thirst trap.

They do it on purpose because it triggers people and causes them to act in predictable and easily observable ways that create millions of dollars in ad revenue for these big movie studios. They couldn't care less if people actually watch these films.

They’re losing massive amounts of money doing that. Look at all the IP’s which I’ve face planted into the cement because the director wanted to make something for “ the modern audience“. Elizabeth Banks’ Charlie’s Angels? Terminator dark fate? Rings of power? Indiana Jones & the dial of dysentery? Failures, all across the board, and many more. How does that generate ad revenue? It doesn’t.

It does a bit and that’s fine. It is needed.
The book is phenomenal. What they were able to do in 2.5 hours with that material is insane. I suggest reading the book, but the movie captures it pretty damn well.

Ryan Reynolds wishes he could act like gosling. Dudes been in plenty of comedies. You should watch nice guys.

I’m not qualified to comment on if the science was stupid or not, but you should read the book. Movie would have been 15 hours long if they included all the science before and after launching the ship.
Hard to judge the science when it is based on starting with an alien super algae. Its a given that most of the science wouldn’t work without astrophage.

I watched this last night. So many movies are way over hyped and then don't deliver.
This one delivers.
My wife is interested in seeing it as well but she's on a mother/daughter trip this weekend so I watched it solo first. Can't wait to watch it again with my girls when they get back.

Maybe the book is better, just made it sound like they had barely any time left on earth, but wanted to fly 12 light years away? That would take decades.

Dark room, large tv 4k with surround sound cranked up is the only way to watch this if you missed it in the theaters.
