The phrase was slang for I’m your guy/ I’m the one you want back in the late 1800s. Someone likely thought it would be cool to use some slang from that day, and they were right since it became an iconic line from the movie. That said, I don’t think he’s a very likable person.
A character like Monk is what I would consider a likable character. Characters like Doc would be cool characters cause the had good quips and could back them up.
