The scenes with Martin Short as the "Vadding Planner" were hilarious. When he started talking about what kind of wedding cake AKA Wadding Cock they wanted and then gave the price-----Steve Martins reaction was gold.
And speaking of Steve Martin movies, one of my favorites is "My Blue Heaven" playing mob informer Vinny under protective custody by the FBI.

I went to the movies and saw this as an 11 year old and laughed my butt off and have seen it at least a dozen times since both with and without my wife because i love Steve Martin....wife and I still on occasion yell out "release!!!!" if our little schnauzer is barking up a storm.
but we watched this about a week ago with my 13 year old daughter for the first time. I literally had tears coming down in a few scenes..."and something inside, started to hurt"
after it was over my daughter said, "well dad, better get ready cause its gonna happen"
damn it kid !

Watched both 1 and 2 growing up and as a result they are some of my absolute favorite movies.
And then for some unknown reason they decided to remake it.

Same.
Echo what others have said here- can watch them at any stage of life and they are new in different ways.

I refuse to watch it.
There was absolutely no way that anyone could play the role better than Martin.

Annie Banks is a spoiled bitch
Beautiful woman but a future headache. The fact that she breaks up with her fiance because he gave her a blender shows how this dude is in for a life of misery. And she was with the most capitulating pussy on the planet and he still offended her.
Steve Martin was the only sane person in the movie but he raised a spoiled bitch like others have posted...didn't help he had a femma-nazi wife in awful Diane Keaton.
Condolences.. Its not Planes, Trains and Automobiles that you should feel sorry for a Steve Martin character... It's Father of the Bride.

Did a double take seeing little Kieran Culkin in this, especially after seeing his character in Succession

In my family "father of the bride house" to this day means a classy, nice, non-palatial, non-mcmansion house

Well yea. Isn’t John candy the sympathetic character of the duo in TPA? Candy is a broken widower desperate for basic human companionship and trying to eek out some joy from life while Martin is mostly a dick having a bad travel day. I assume Candy’s character wakes up every day and struggles not to eat a bullet.
Damn it I’m nearly in tears just thinking about poor Del Griffith. I hope he can find some solace in his grief.

I was moved by those scenes as a older teen/young adult. However, my daughter is 23 now (no pics), and now I choke up just thinking about those scenes.

One of the more underrated villains in cinematic history.

As a father of 5 daughters, this movie is an all-timer for me.
As a father of 5 daughters, the part of the movie with the price per head math is an absolute horror film for me.
