Epic
I don't think some of you are getting what the OP is asking. In ten or twenty years, most of you will not remember what happen on SOA or Breaking Bad. Yes those are good shows but how many people actually watch them? There are people to this day who remember where they were when JR was shot. That is epic, not Will's dad walking out on him.
That's right, I am being that guy. Big deal wanna fight about it

What? The OP asked for epic that people talk about for years to come. 1 million people watch Breaking Bad a week. In ten or twenty years you will not point to a particular scene and call it epic and have anybody in a room know what you are talking about. There are people (myself included) who never seen Dallas but know about that scene. I am not saying Breaking Bad is not a great show, I am just saying it is not what the OP is asking.

Then WTF was the point of this thread? There aren't many scenes as famous as who shot JR

Exactly! I think the OP could have said great scenes you will remember for years to come. Like you said, there aren't that many epic scenes and this thread should have stop on page one

How about recent scenes that are destined to be historically epic?
So Breaking Bad wouldn't have scenes that would fit in this context?

Picard revealed as a Borg is definitely one. "Mr Worf...fire." Chill down my spine.
What about the "In the Air Tonight" scene of Miami Vice?
I'm showing my bias, but the lawnmower scene in Mad Men might qualify too.

Sure. I might have misinterpret what the OP was asking. I thought he was asking about Epic scenes that where I guess iconic where even the lay person knows about it. Breaking Bad, while great, I don't think most people know about it. Didn't mean to sound like a jack arse.

I'm of the opinion that depending on how the final season goes down, Breaking Bad will be up there with The Wire and Sopranos in terms of greatness.

Is The Wire a show I should be checking out? How many seasons did it run for and was each season as good as the last?

well you failed miserably.
the episode where will's dad walked out on him aired originally on may 5, 1994. i remember watching it. the show was extremely popular, and i'd guess most people that were watching that show around that time remember the episode.
who shot JR? i don't even know what show you're talking about (i'm 27), so i guess the determination of what is epic is in the eye of the beholder.

Oh hell yes.
5 Seasons. I just recently rewatched it for the second time and it was just as good if not better for the things you may not have caught the first time. It's at the top for me.
Everyone has their own opinion on which seasons were the best, but I usually see people on here say that the 5th is the worst, but still better than 95% of what you see on tv. I would agree with that. The 3rd and 4th seasons are some truly epic television.

Phil Leotardo's death.
More epic was when he went on a rant about why his last name is Leotardo instead of Leonardo.

I still tear up thinking about that scene (yes I'm serious).

So you are telling me at 9 years old you remember the date and the episode?

I laughed at the death scene. The dude getting out of his truck going oh shite! and the black kids reacting with one barfing

Thanks. I will admit I watch crappy shows so I am looking forward to expanding my horizons.
