-Visually appealing? Sure

-Easy to follow? NO

-Dialogue? Non existent (can’t understand them anyway)

-Character building? NOPE

This movie was made to win awards with visuals and soundtrack. Audience enjoyment be damned. Hacksaw Ridge was a much better WW2 movie IMO.

I guess that explains the slumping DVD sales.

I do like Dunkirk, but I agree with this statement. Hacksaw Ridge was an excellent movie, a good bit better than Dunkirk IMO.

Yes....and no.

Dunkirk was more of an experience than a film, much like Gravity. I enjoyed both, but the thought of watch either again just doesn't sound as interesting.

Yeah, but people also just love showing off their Home Theater system.

And Dunkirk is the only movie that fits the bill of recent releases.

Dunkirk did an awesome job putting you in the time and place, and managed to do it from different perspectives (soldier and rescuer). The IMAX in particular.

As a story and gripping yarn, agree with OP. Saving Private Ryan was so great as it managed to accomplish both.

I think it's a movie made for the theater. I watched in IMAX and it was amazing.

Well people on this board complain about how choppy movies can be and this one was choppy. I understand they were trying to show the same events from different perspectives but it seemed scattered.

Ditto, Dunkirk was a watch-in-theaters experience. I'd watch it again but the sound system would have to be on full blast.

I agree.

If you didn't know about Dunkirk before then you don't know much about it now. The movie started and ended without much background as to what was going on and why. Then it just ended.

Sounds a lot like Avatar. Only person who has seen it more than twice is James Cameron, who probably jacks off to it every night.

Dunkirk was made to be seen in the theater, especially in an IMAX theater. I loved the film but I will never buy it for home viewing because Nolan never intended it to be watched on anything smaller than a standard theater screen.

It’s like the movie Gravity.

It was a theater experience. The visuals and sound were great.
